Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Admirers of the most famous export of Murano, Italy, can find sumptuous reimaginings of glassware much closer to home. Dante Marioni: Blown Glass presents more than 125 color photos of the California-born Marioni's delicately elongated vases, glasses and flutes amply justifying the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation's recognition of his work. Corning Museum of Glass curator Tina Oldknow provides commentary; other essays and appreciations are also included in this Antiques Roadshow Book Club Main Selection. ( Feb.)

Book Description

Seattle artist Dante Marioni creates glass in a classic tradition inspired by the art of ancient and Renaissance Italy, yet his graceful vessels carry the art forward with their fresh forms and vibrant colour combinations.

5.0 out of 5 stars An informative text and commentary, Oct 14 2001
This review is from: Dante Marioni: Blown Glass (Hardcover)
Showcasing Dante Marioni's glassblowing with 139 colorplates and four black/white photographs, Tina Oldknow (Curator of Modern Glass at the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, New York); Joseph Marioni (twice artist-in-residence at the Pilchuck Glass School); and Edward R. Quick (Curator, Presidential Materials Staff, National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, D.C.) offer an informative text and commentary that enhances our understanding of this truly gifted man and his work. Very highly recommended for all serious personal, academic, professional, and community library collections, Dante Marioni: Blown Glass provides a "reader friendly" step-by-step depiction of the process used in the making of a blown-glass vase, a list of public collections, solo and group exhibitions, bibliography, biography, and index.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, Jan 2 2010
By M. Athayde - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Dante Marioni: Blown Glass (Hardcover)
I am studying glass blowing for my BFA and from the first time I saw Dante's work he became my idol. This book is a very fast read and shows so much of his work but more importantly it explains what his work is all about. Any one interested in glass, especially anyone working glass needs to at least read this book, if it doesn't inspire you then there has got to be something wrong with you.
