Well balanced, researched... wonderful!, Mar 6 2009
This review is from: Darcy's Passions: Pride and Prejudice Retold through His Eyes (Paperback)
After having read P & P, I was left wanting more. Without wanting to offend the millions of Austenites in the world, I must say that given the era in which Jane Austen wrote her novels, she was not at liberty to say more than was appropriate for her time. I believe Regina Jeffers used what she calls "dramatic license", and told the story of Elizabeth and Darcy in the best way for our time.
I had done hours of research on finding the best sequel or retelling of the original story. Having discovered that Ms. Jeffers was well versed in Austen (she has been teaching Austen for years to hundreds), and took the time to research regency England, I was sold! There are also great reviews of this book on the UK Amazon website. (Amazon.co.uk)
I also found that many other authors would tell Elizabeth and Darcy's story more like a harlequin novel than a historical romance... Even though I myself am an avid erotica reader (Anne Roquelaure, Marquis de Sade, etc), I strongly believe their story was not to be perversed, and was to be kept pure and virtuous. (There is nothing wrong with sex in a novel, but I think it is a bit out of place in this context. I'd rather imagine it than read it). Don't get me wrong there is plenty of sexual reference, but no actual sex.
I also found that Austen's P&P ended abruptly. While telling the story form Fitzwilliam Darcy's point of view, Jeffers also adds more dialogue, and ends the story two months after their wedding day.
The writing is also superb. The writing style is not like Austen's (we should not expect it from someone born two centuries later), but it is very, very well written. It is written in a literary style, worthy of the story at hand. Also, I am an editor and proof reader, and I did not find any typos at all!! (I do find errors most of the time in published books). I strongly recommend it!

I've read several P&P sequels during the past years and this one is the best ever written ! It's very interesting to re-read Pride and Prejudice with Darcy's point of view. This book is really a must !

Darcy's Passions, Sep 26 2011
This review is from: Darcy's Passions: Pride and Prejudice Retold through His Eyes (Paperback)
For those who love Pride and Prejudice as much as I do and often wondered what was going through proud Mr Darcy then this is the book for you. It is not one for all but it gives you the option to hear the thoughts and match the scenes with Elizabeth to get a full understanding of how there relationship came to be. I am an avid reader of all things Jane Austen and this book in my opinion compliments my collection. Now if you are expecting the book to be writen in the exact style of Jane Austen then you will be disappointed but then again remember it is not Jane Austen who wrote this so you can not compare. However you can note that the auther did a excellent job is matching her style well and matching the story simply retold through his thoughs and how things came to be. Enjoy!
