Dark Angel: Season 1

Dark Angel is one of my favourite of all tv shows. Season One is the best season with the lead character Max played by Alba really showing her acting talent.
Max is kind of a fun superhero in a way, she has the abiltiy of kicking butt that is equal to any guy , the style of fighting is fast and more martial arts based than the typical bang bang shot'em up or I'm so strong I'll just throw you across the room hero style. It is fun to watch her, and she has some pretty good one liners (ala Bruce Willis in Die Hard). But what makes me appreciate Jessica Alba's acting isn't so much the physical stuff, it is that she makes me care about the character Max, and her crazy life.

She isn't perfect or flawless, she doesn't know everything, she has bad days and she really feels like an outsider sometimes. There is a realness about her that most "super-hero's" don't have.
She isn't a classic hero but she does stick up for the good guys, tries to stay clear of the bad guys (or go after them when a situation arises) and find a way to survive in a difficult world.
The second season gets a bit too sci-fi and takes some different twist w the story that I wasn't as crazy about,it is still good but the first season was great, better written, etc.

I think the this show would appeal on different levels to alot of different people.
If you are a fan of any of these genre's or shows you would probably enjoy this show...
Indiana Jones- for those who like action/adventure
Tomb Raider (for the smart and sexy female who can kick butt)
X-files ( for the search into her past and those that want to capture her, it has some conspiracy/ black gov't ops type stuff)
Xena- for those that again like to see a girl kick butt
Star Trek- for those who have alot of imagination and like the tv world to be slightly diff than our own, it is set a little bit into the future
X-men- for those who like the slightly flawed heros and the struggles they have

It is a great idea to own the first season as watching them in order does matter a bit as she learns more about her background. I bought both seasons and really enjoy them. Although if a person had only seen one episode and it was from the second season you might wonder what is this show all about. But don't doubt getting the show especially the first season, it really is great and you will love it. Well written and acted, fun to watch.

Television was awesome in 1999. There was Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, but it got even better in 2000 when Dark Angel appeared. I can't believe this was 10 years ago because I just watched the whole series again and I would still love to see a third season happen or even a movie.

Even if season 2 got darker (after all it is called Dark Angel) and that some actors left the show, it was still excellent. At first, I thought that the show was cancelled because it was too expensive. Then, I read on Wikipedia that season 2 aired on fridays. Basically, the network killed the show because they were trying to make people watch television on fridays. And they did it again with Dollhouse.

This is frustrating, but not as much as the fact that the creators didn't seem to love their creation very much. I mean apart from the seasons, Battlestar Galactica has two movies and a spin-off called Caprica. Buffy has season 8 in comic version and the spin-off Angel who also has season 6 in comic version. Firefly has Serenity and a comic. X-Files has two movies. Apart from Firefly, those are all shows that aired for a long time compared to Dark Angel.

Television is unfair!
