This review is from: Dark Gate: Selected Poems (Hardcover)
David Vogel's poems have been translated and anthologized in various volumes, the most notable the Penguin Book of Hebrew Verse (which has the added attraction of having the original Hebrew on the left page and the English translation on the right). But there is no English translation of his poems outside of scattered anthologies. The Dark Gate, Selected Poems of David Vogel, is the exception. In this hard to get book, we have a sample of his poems, their sense of doom, the almost child-like fear of catastrophe which pervades them, the simple words and phrases concealing the gap about to open, a world near ready to plunge into destruction. There are also some rare pictures of Vogel, including one taken in 1943, a year before he was deported to his death.
