The product arrived promptly and I have enjoyed it several times already, although I do not think it can quite compare to the original.

4.0 out of 5 stars dark shawdows re-release Nov. 18 2012
this is a re-release of the 1991 series that was 1 season. the new cover art is confusing ,as to make you think this was a new 2009 series.Greatest daytime soap ever...

5.0 out of 5 stars DARK SHADOWS Lives Again! Nov. 3 2005
Unfortunately, this set does not contain the extra footage in the pilot episode that was included in the VHS releases. It is also a bare-bones release, meaning just the show as it appeared on TV, no extras.
But this is a very welcome release, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this show again. I have to agree, it probably would have been a hit series if not for programming difficulties due to the Gulf War. I remember trying to follow the show when it was originally aired, and I had a hard time keeping up when I was actively looking for the show. For a more casual viewer, it would have been next to impossible!
The show follows the plotline of the original DARK SHADOWS first Barnabas storyline for the first 6 episodes, and then tells the 1795 flashback (here 1790) for the rest, with the characters in the past being played by the same actors as those in the present. It's too bad the series didn't last. Ben Cross makes an excellent Barnabas, sympathetic and terrifying by turns. And hints were dropped about future appearances by Roger's wife Laura, and other characters. I would love to have seen how characters like Adam, Quentin, and Nicholas Blair would have been re-interpreted.
This set is well-packaged, and the picture quality is excellent. It would make a great Christmas gift for the DS fan.
Now if they'll only do a special edition with that additional footage...

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark Shadows The Revival Series is Golden March 11 2006
This new and very awesome version of Dark Shadows is a great series that goes in to greater detail of How Barnabas Collins became a Vampire. A slight twist on the original but alot more gore, violence and sex. To bad the show only had 12 episodes I think the characters portray the classic Dark Shadows characters very well and spiced them up. Not nearly as good as the original Dark Shadows, but very entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ben Cross alone is worth the price of admission April 1 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I have now watched the complete series twice in a row and the second time was just as enjoyable and maybe better because I surprised myself at how much I had missed on the first viewing. I enjoyed the series very much because it was to my mind the fore runner of today's True Blood (without the nudity). Dark Shadows is a soap opera masquerading as a television series and I love it.
