About the Author

With more than a million books in print, David D. Busch is the world's #1 selling digital camera guide author, and the originator of popular digital photography series like David Busch's Pro Secrets and David Busch's Quick Snap Guides. He has written more than a dozen hugely successful guidebooks for Nikon and Nikon digital SLR models, as well as many popular books devoted to dSLRs, including Mastering Digital SLR Photography, Second Edition, and Digital SLR Pro Secrets. As a roving photojournalist for more than twenty years, he illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. He's operated his own commercial studio, suffocated in formal dress while shooting weddings-for-hire, and shot sports for a daily newspaper and upstate New York college. His photos and articles have appeared in Popular Photography & Imaging, The Rangefinder, The Professional Photographer, and hundreds of other publications. He has also reviewed dozens of digital cameras for CNet and Computer Shopper, and his advice has been featured in National Public Radio's "All Tech Considered." When About.com named its top five books on Beginning Digital Photography, debuting at the #1 and #2 slots were Busch's Digital Photography All-In-One Desk Reference for Dummies and Mastering Digital Photography. During the past year, he's had as many as five of his books listed in the Top 20 of Amazon.com's Digital Photography Bestseller list--simultaneously! Busch's 120-plus other books published since 1983 include bestsellers like David Busch's Quick Snap Guide to Digital SLR Lenses. Visit his website at http://www.dslrguides.com.

Alexander S. White is an attorney, writer, and amateur photographer. He is the co-author of David Busch's Canon PowerShot G10/G11 Guide to Digital Photography, and author of PHOTOGRAPHER'S GUIDE TO THE LEICA D-LUX 4: GETTING THE MOST FROM LEICA'S COMPACT DIGITAL CAMERA and DAUNTLESS MARINE: JOSEPH SAILER JR., DIVE-BOMBING ACE OF GUADALCANAL. He began his life-long interest in photography as a teenager, when he was fortunate enough to have his own darkroom in his parents' house in Philadelphia. He also discovered the magic of Super-8 cinematography, and coerced his friends into making numerous amateur productions. He later ventured into the production of sound films and went on to major in Communication at Stanford University, concentrating in Broadcasting and Film, before serving in the U.S. Army and later attending the University of Pennsylvania Law School. His other interests include genealogy; he maintains a family history website and continues to do research into his family's ancestry. He lives near Richmond, Virginia, with his wife, Clenise.

David Busch's guides are the best on the market. I already have his Canon Canon EOS 40D Guide to Digital Photography. His books are light years ahead of the others publications. Every camera setting is not only described in a form of how to do it (like most of the others, particularly the camera's manuals), but how and why you should set you specific function in order to get the best results. All explanation and information is presented in simple form, showing detailed images of a specific screen of your camera menu display. Making the proper setting and learning how to do it is extremely easy. All of his books are having two parts, one is dedicated to the basic settings and the other part deals with the advanced settings. Finally, there is always a section on advance shooting of different subjects and movie-making, natural light and flash use, different lenses use, and finally a section on image manipulation, such as downloading, organizing and manipulating your photos in image editor software's.

I am an advanced amateur photographer and when I open his book, I always learn more from David Busch on a new setting (which I have missed)or a "trick", which is advancing my knowledge of a specific camera's model.

In all I would rate his books at five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for either the G10 or G11 Mar 11 2010
By D. Rader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have a Canon G11 and have a couple other books on the camera. I was reluctant to buy this book at first because I generally try to purchase guides that are specific to the model I own just to cut down on confusion. Don't let that stop you from buying this book! There is much in common between the G10 and G11 and the author does a great job of clearly pointing out the differences where they do exist.

The thing that I most like about this book is that not only does it tell you the function of every button and menu setting on your camera but it goes on to tell you why you may or may not want to use a particular setting in various shooting situations. The author is not dogmatic. He states his opinions but leaves you to draw your own conclusions.

I also really like the way the book is structured. The early chapters get you up to speed quickly so you can get out and take some pictures, which is why you bought this camera in the first place. When you start using the camera you will undoubtedly have more questions about some of the more advanced options on these very flexible cameras. The middle chapters go on to explain the functionality of the camera features in greater detail. The later chapters cover more general photography subjects like exposure, depth of field, flash use, etc., but geared toward these cameras specifically. There is also a pretty good run down of the accessories available as well as the included software apps.

It is a larger book than the guides intended to throw in your camera bag but the extra size and weight are put to good use. If I could only own one book on my G11 this one would be it. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best of the G11 after market manuals - you won't go wrong with this one. May 6 2010

It's great that there are so many books to choose from for the G11. You probably won't see that for any other compact. I have Jeff Carlson's book as well as David Busch's. I almost got the G11 Field Guide, but Amazon was taking too long to ship it so I cancelled my order and I opted for Carlson's book. After reading Carlson's book I felt there had to be more so I ordered Busch's book from Amazon. I did look at the G11 Field Guide at Barnes and Noble and felt it was almost as good as David Busch's book. I would have been happy with it. I purchased Carlson's book first and felt it was missing something - it just doesn't go as deep as Busch's book, although I felt it was a good read. If I had bought Busch's book first I would not have looked for another book. I checked out a few other books at Barnes and Noble as well, but they were only "just a better offering" than Canon's manual and added nothing other than to clear up the ambiguity of the manufacture's manual. I would rate the top 3 manuals in this order:
David Busch's Manual
G11 Field Guide
Carlson's manual

This book is the best supplemental manual for a camera model that I have ever seen. It reads very well, is well indexed, and best of all, offers insight and examples of the utility of many of the settings. I have the G11, and this manual is essential reading. 5 stars. Bill Knorr
