American Idol winner David Cook is set to release his self-titled debut album on November 18th, 2008. Produced by Grammy winning Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock), David Cook is a quality album full with radio hits. Cook co-wrote 9 songs from his debut, along with songwriters like Chris Cornell, Brian Howes & Cathy Dennis. The 1st single "Light On" was co-written by one of rock music's most influential innovators, Chris Cornell, lead singer and songwriter for Soundgarden and Audioslave, and acclaimed producer / songwriter Brian Howes, who has worked with superstar rock bands such as Hinder and Puddle of Mudd.

This debut cd from American Idol winner David Cook is excellent! I am SO relieved that the producers of the cd allowed him to just "be himself" as the disc thoroughly reveals. All of the tracks on this cd are awesome driving rock tunes. No dogs on the whole disc. Pick it up for sure, you will be happy you did.

This album marks the first CD made by David Cook after being crowned the winner of American Idol. While it won't win any best rock albums of the year awards it is nonetheless a great album put out by a great artist. Perhaps the most unique thing about this album in comparison to other idol winners is that most songs on this CD are co-written by David Cook himself. It is clear as well that he was very involved in the writing process as almost every song contains one of his "money" notes.

This album also features guest co-writers who help out Cook. These include Raine Maida, lead singer of Our Lady Peace, (Heroes, Life on the Moon, Mr. Sensitive, I did it for you, Permanent), Chantal Kreviazuk (Permanent), and Chris Cornell, lead singer of Audioslave (Light On).

Most of the songs are your typical rock songs with the heavy electric guitars and drums. Highlight tracks include Light On, the first single, which grooves to a slightly slower, melodic beat. Bar-ba-sol is probably one of the heavier songs, but one of the catchier ones as well. Other favourites include Mr. Sensitive, I did it for you, and A Daily Anthem.

David Cook proves with this album that he is a true rock artist, not just pop singer like many of the idol winners. He has managed to fill the album with his own songs and the music definitely has his style in it. Anyone who enjoyed him on the show (for his style, not just the popular songs he sang) will enjoy this CD. As well anyone one looking for a solid rock album will not be disappointed either.
