Product Description

From Amazon.com

Let America Laugh is an intermittently entertaining, fly-on-the-wall DVD sidebar to David Cross's live comedy CD from Sub Pop, Shut Up, You F**king Baby! Shot on a low-tech, digital camcorder, Let America Laugh captures the ups and downs (mostly downs) of Cross's 2002 tour of North American clubs. Notable sequences find the Mr. Show star jerking around a rude and uncooperative Nashville club owner, attending a wee-hours party at a Memphis video store (it looks exactly as one might imagine), surviving a double booking in Vancouver, and shooting fireworks from a Minneapolis playground. Much of this looks like concert-tour hell, but there are highlights, too: A stop at Experience Music Project in Seattle, a funny encounter with Cross's comic partner, Bob Odenkirk, in a Los Angeles store, and a relaxed, hometown show in Atlanta. There are bits and pieces of routines here, but this DVD is more travelogue than showcase. --Tom Keogh

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic behind the scenes look at David Cross, Nov 11 2003

This review is from: David Cross: Let America Laugh (DVD)
First, if you like David Cross to any degree, just buy this right now. However, even if you're just interested in what its like touring as a comedian, this DVD is like nothing I've ever seen. The DVD not only compliments the audio CD "Shut up..." but it surpasses it in many ways. The DVD is not a concert or even a documentary. It is a look into what life is like for a traveling comedian as they encounter the idiot people that provide them with the fuel to make jokes. You get to see David Cross rip into the people at his shows that try to heckle him. He tears them up so bad. After watching it you realize that this is so much better than if they had just put out a DVD of his routine. Instead of seeing a stand-up routine already available on CD, we get an entirely different perspective. This is some funny stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Cross., Jun 19 2004
This review is from: David Cross: Let America Laugh (DVD)
It's David Cross. No, not so much with the standup-but you are warned by the packaging. Yes, there was actually a failsafe included to subvert this "OMFG! NO STANDUP ROUFLO" or whatever the cool kids say nowadays. If I can HEAR the dude fart and make out David's face, the quality is cool--what are you missing exactly? The DVD includes many interviews with idiots that you are invited to make fun of yourself--just because David is not voicing over it does not make it any less hilarious. Look at the title--there's a little bit of irony floating around, kids. Between the chick that the title line comes from and the prolonged "getting kicked out of the dressing room" sequence, it is worth a buy if you can appreciate David Cross without him telling you exactly what you are supposed to think. It's probably cheaper than what you paid for "Shut Up You F***ing Baby" so go for it. If you have the faculties to think for yourself, you will dig it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great indie documentary, Jun 11 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: David Cross: Let America Laugh (DVD)
If you've ever hung around with an indie band, a lot of this stuff will seem familiar. Indifferent crowds, lame venues, drunks trying to interrupt the show or staggering up to tell their rambling, incoherent stories after the show, invitations to parties that turn out to be boring or bizarre. A lot of this stuff is a downer, but it's realistic and wry. There are also a few bright spots where he tells a funny story to a receptive crowd, but most of the onstage footage is from when things go seriously wrong, like when an old hippie in the audience farts loudly and the stench drifts onstage. "Did...did someone just fart? 'Cause it really smells like someone just farted."
