This my third stick blender I bought. The first two were Cuisinart. The first one worked very well for approx 2 years but was killed by some baby carrots. The second died without a known killer, much earlier. So I gave up the brand, at least for hand blenders.
This De Longhi blender is amazing. It is very powerful. The only flaw is that both speed buttons are a little hard to keep them pressed for a continuous work. Maybe it is more difficult for me, as my right hand is still recovering after a broken wrist. The Cuisinart were easier to use from this only point of view.
It comes with a quite big chopper, that works like a dream. The chopper has a removable plastic base, that also works as a lid. The whisk looks a bit flimsy, but works OK. It comes out of its base, as the whisk is machine washable. There is also a tall beaker with a lid, good for smoothies.
The blender looks very well, and seems sturdy. I didn't try any raw carrots, but I think that being more powerful, it won't be so easy to break.
Actually, Cuisinart stick blenders were not killed by the lack of power, but by their plastic breakable parts.
I only hope De Longhi will last longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with my purchase, Sep 17 2011

I am very very happy with my purchase, the whole thing was a little larger than I thought, but it turned out to be even better, I was affraid it wouldn't chop small quantities very well, but wrong, it even chops a small onion! The blades are very sharp, the mixer works great and the best part is the pad like thing under each bowl, which helps you hold the bowl on its place and not scratch the table while blending or chopping (not that it moves while working with), you can use the pad as a lid for the bowl if you want to, which is a very useful thing. I had a Braun blender 6 years ago which I was very happy with, but this one is the best! I just dont understand why they dont put an on/off button, you have to hold the button all the time you're working, which is not very long by the way! Cause this baby is quick!

I'm really happy with this overall. The only issue is that you have to hand wash the whisk attachment. I put it in the top rack of the Dishwasher after the first time I used it, and the upper housing was full of water when the wash cycle was done. It took a while to shake out all the water, lesson learned. Perhaps if I actually opened the manual, this warning would be in bold red letters, but what's the fun in that!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hand blender excellence, April 21 2012

As far as the hand blender goes, this one seems to be great. I've been using it almost daily for 2 weeks for fruit and vegetable smoothies and it works great. You cannot use ice with this machine, which is kind of a bummer but I freeze my fruit so when I chop it up and throw it in, depending on how much liquid you add (I usually use vanilla soymilk) you can make anything from a creamy smoothie to a sorbet like dessert. Just remember to move the blender up and down and all around, you won't blend anything by leaving it in one spot.

The spin on the blade is so vigorous that it will actually try to suction itself to the bottom of thinner fluids. All in all, this is a great compliment to my kitchen.

The whisk is almost useless to me because of the high power of the motor, and the delicacy of the which. You cannot whisk anything as thick as butter and sugar (so says the instruction manual) and I haven't tried it on any batters because of that warning. I tried making a vinaigrette with the whisk and it spun so fast that many of my ingredients flew out of the bowl as well as having it turn into a creamy vinaigrette in just seconds.

The chopping attachment does not chop. The chopping attachment acts almost as another blender. I tried to chop 1 halved onion inside and within seconds the onion was semi chopped and semi minced. I wanted to see how it would get and it basically turned my onion into a puree, same thing for carrots. It doesn't seem to chop very well or maybe I am doing it wrong because everything I threw in there became a mixture of chopped and minced within literal seconds. Any less and you would have large chunks still left. Anymore and you have raw veggie puree.

If you are looking for a strong hand blender to do some good pureeing, sauces, mashed potato's, etc... than this is a great one, the attachments haven't worked so great for me though. Maybe I'm just not using them properly though.
