3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for direct to video flicks, but still some flaws., Jan 16 2006

This review is from: Dead 7 (DVD)
For a direct to video flick, it's pretty enjoyable & entertaing, but it drags a bit in the 2nd half. It's very good & creepy in the first half, but the second half of the movie really slows a bit as it takes itself too seriously & goes flat, but still keeps things from being a bore.

It starts out with a witches meeting at a secret place in the woods & a sacrifice that's very creepy & scary looking. It then moves to a small town with some discussion about witches at a school, at which point the lead actor comes into the fray. He suspects the talk is not all innocent & thinks some evil is going down here in his hometown, so he investigates some activity of witchcraft. After some clue finding, he gets several indications his hunch is right. He finds several books about witchcraft & reads up on the practice more.

The witches, led by Burr, the bombshell female lead, are busy doing some major damage in the small town, incl. sudden power failures & surges in broad daylight, several creepy & well-done sacrifices, & creating potions. The male lead finds their coven, lets himself get captured on purpose toward the end, but escapes & kill Burr just before the end credits roll.

The directing is pretty good, as are the music score, plot, dialog, & pacing, though the pacing is sluggish a bit in the 2nd half. The storyline varies a bit, but stays enjoyable. The special effects are pretty cheap & show it in the 2nd half.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ultra low budget at it's best, Nov 27 2010

This is ultra low low budget at it's best. The story is creative, interesting and entertaining by Garrett Clancy who also directed it. Great use of a limited budget on the visuals. The acting is really good on all levels. All the cast are very good.
Just a fun flick to watch and a reminder that talent can still shine through even on limited production values which you can see with the odd camera flare.
I look forward to seeing more from Garrett Clancy and the rest of the cast in this movie. Janet Tracy Keijser, who is on the DVD cover, is always interesting to watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Remember: Only Dopes Use Dope..., Nov 22 2009

Meth Dealers become murderers leading to their being stalked and killed by a mysterious avenger. This is another excellent low-low-budget horror effort. Lots of eerie atmosphere and a menacing mineshaft! Also available on DECREPIT CRYPT OF NIGHTMARES...
