Thousands are dead or dying - but the worst is only beginning. Amid the wreckage, something unimaginable is happening: a deadly virus has broken out, returning the dead to life - with an insatiable hunger for human flesh...The Nightmare Begins Within hours, the plague has spread all over Texas. San Antonio police officer Eddie Hudson finds his city overrun by a voracious army of the living dead. Along with a small group of survivors, Eddie must fight off the savage horde in a race to save his family...There's no place to run. No place to hide. The zombie horde is growing as the virus runs rampant. Eddie knows he has to find a way to destroy these walking horrors...but he doesn't know the price he will have to pay...

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast-Paced Traditional Zombie Yarn, Feb 10 2011

This review is from: Dead City (Mass Market Paperback)
McKinney is prolific and with Dead City he proves that the standard zombie tale can still be entertaining. There has been so many zombie novels in the last three years and many of them dead on arrival. Let's face it, it is getting tougher to be original with the format and I have see a great deal of repetition in plot, characters, and situations. This book is a solid contribution based on a unique setting and circumstance for the undead rising, a blistering pace, and the ability to identify with the frantic efforts of the survivors. It is also great value on the Kindle and can be "digested" in an afternoon or evening.

5.0 out of 5 stars What happens next?!, July 19 2011
This review is from: Dead City (Mass Market Paperback)
This is definitely one of my top favourite zombie books. A fast paced, nail-biting, breath-holding, adrenaline rush of gory goodness from page 1 until end. I hope McKinney has many more zombie stories swimming around in his head, because his zombie lore will always have a place on my shelf.
If unaware, this is book 1 of a 3 part series. Beware ordering from Amazon!!!! I ordered all 3 to be delivered at the same time, to which book 3 was sent to me first, book 1 sent a week later, and (going on two months now) I've yet to receive book 2...and the only reply I get from Amazon is two emails saying I can cancel my order if I like. So unfortunately, book 3 sits unread until I receive book 2.

3.0 out of 5 stars At Times Hard to Follow, May 4 2010

This review is from: Dead City (Mass Market Paperback)
I give this book three stars. It's high on action but at times I found it hard to follow certain scenes. Often I found myself skimming pages that didn't hold my interest enough to read every word. If you're a fan of zombies, it's a half decent read.
