Unfortunately Not Very Good,
By
This review is from: Dead in the Family: A Sookie Stackhouse Novel (Hardcover)
I'm a super Sookie Stackhouse lover...I waited AGES for this new one to come out. I got all excited...made an evening of getting ready to read this new one (especially after how good the last one was) and then I started reading....I had to keep looking at the cover to make sure this was the same writer as the rest of the series. Its as if its written by another person. Its a very depressing and uneventful book. I was so shocked! If I had to sum it up in one word it would be BORING. It seems that the book was slapped together in a few days. It also seems that there was a required number of pages so it was filled with mindless dribble. I'm so disappointed. I really love this series....and am hoping the next book is a heck of a lot better. I will continue reading this series though. If anyone wants to decide to read this one, as I'm sure they would if they are a Sookie lover, wait for the paperback...the hardcover isn't worth the money.

There will be some spoilers in the review so if you don't want to know what happens, don't read. I am not revealing the ending or anything, but I do reveal a few things.******I love the sookie series as it is one of my favorites but after the first eight books it seems that Charlaine is running out of ideas. There is a great storyline here but it is slow and there is very little action. Harris should take a much needed break from this series, work on something else and return to it when she has something concrete. I loved that Hunter was inserted in the story because there is something to be developed in the story. gives a chance to sookie to be somewhat of a caregiver. I loved that sookie explored the idea of becoming a vampire. She doesn't seem averted against it like in previous books. Bill should be taken out of the story since this storyline is stale. He is her past and he should go. Hopefully his reunion with someone from the past will end his relationship with Sookie. Eric and Sookie's relationship should have been sizzling hot but Harris doesn't explore the relationship the way it should have been explored but there are alot of tender moments and I love how her friendship with Pam deepened, as did her friendship with Claude, her fae cousin. So there are many great things in this new installement but this book would have been wayyyyyyy better.

A big CH fan disappointed ...,

I fell head over heels in love with the Sookie Stackhouse series in a way that I haven't fallen for a book series in a couple of decades. I have reread all of the books so many times I have lost count. I advance ordered my copy of DITF, and planned a special day to read the book... and I was so disappointed.Like other reviewers I had the impression the book was slapped together in a big hurry. Unfinished plots from previous books did not receive mention. The long awaited relationship between Sookie and Eric was told in a strange, retrospective fashion, as if the relationship were already well-established and a lot of time had elapsed. This cheated readers out of the opportunity to go along and experience the development of their connection (after waiting so long since DTTW.) The sex scenes were not up to snuff. The pacing and timelines seemed disjointed. There were inconsistencies all over the place, between the books and even between chapters. One example: In FDTW Sookie helps avoid a war between two factions in the werewolf community by acting as a human lie detector for Alcide and Patrick Furnan. Suddenly in DITF, Alcide is claiming that he can't rely on Sookie's abilities, although he had entrusted his fate and that of his followers to her hands before. I love the series, and will surely read the next book. However, I would consider this book my least favourite so far, and would not recommend spending on the hard copy.
