5.0 out of 5 stars mystery... June 19 2004
Format:Hardcover
Keith Calder, an itinerant gunsmith and shooting instructor with a total disregard for the law, is a guest at a shoot in the Scottish Borders when one of the syndicate members dies, apparently by accident, but a bullet is found in his body, yet only shotguns were carried on the shoot. Calder's involvement deepens when the brother of his girl-friend, Molly, is arrested and charged with the murder, and his enquiries lead both hm and Molly into personal danger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead Game Aug. 23 2011
By Green Frog - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is the first of many adventures we share with gunsmith (and retired rogue) Keith Calder. As we meet him, he is approaching the sleepy little Scottish town of Newton Lauder, living a gypsy lifestyle of itinerant gunsmith and shooting instructor. In quick order see a hunt, a murder, a wedding, a mistaken arrest, and a host of other events with a background of the Scottish sport shooting world. Be warned, if you read this one, you will not rest until you find and read all the other stories about Keith and the other characters populating Newton-Lauder.

5.0 out of 5 stars First of a remarkable series Dec 12 2012
By Elizabeth Chamberlin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book introduces Keith Calder, canny Scottish gunsmith. The complicated and often irrational legal system, which fails to take the realities of Scottish country life into account, forces the local inhabitants to engage in outrageously complicated and frequently technically criminal accommodations. Incompetence and corruption in government and law enforcement compound the problem. Add the occasional murder, and Calder needs all his native shrewdness to find the solutions. This world, at first seemingly exotic, eventually becomes startlingly reminiscent of our own. Although somewhat dated, the books in this entertaining series retain their relevance.
