Review

"A fascinating look at an important, growing part of Australia's underworld."  —Sydney Morning Herald

Product Description

Telling the bloody, insider’s story of the international drug and weapons smuggling operations of the feared Bandidos gang, this chilling tale is the first time that an insider has told the true story of the bike gangs that dominate the drug and illegal weapons trade across the globe. For 10 years, Steve Utah was a Bandidos insider, a trusted confidante of senior bike gang members along the east coast of Australia. He arranged their security, cooked their drugs, and witnessed meetings in which overseas weapons smuggling was planned. Utah loved the wildness of the Bandido life and their contempt for the law, but as he plummeted deeper into the heart of the group, his life started to spiral out of control. He witnessed vicious beatings, helped dump corpses, and saw men executed in front of his eyes. In a desperate attempt to regain control of his life, he resorted to the unthinkable—he rolled over to the federal police and told them all he knew about the Bandidos. This shocking, unflinching, tragic story is his confession, and possibly his dying gasp, for he knows that inevitably the Bandido code will be honored and he will be silenced.

3.0 out of 5 stars dead man running, Jun 14 2010

This review is from: Dead Man Running: An Insider's Story on One of the World's Most Feared Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs ... the Bandidos (Paperback)
I don't like snitches of any size, shape,or form. With that being said, I give this book four stars for literary quality, one star for subject.
I'm sure some of the stories told hold some truth. Ross Coulthart ( a journalist), and Duncan McNab( private investigator), had to do some research. I'm sure they looked at Police records.
I'm sure they talked to a few people. I'm equally sure most of what Steve Utah reported was slanted in his favor. This book is not a book about a motorcycle club. This is a book about a self admitted 'Meth' cook turned informer. In my opinion you can't trust a 'Tweeker'!
Ross and Duncan did a good job of putting together a book that chronicles the life of William John Hovey, aka Steve Utah. The Australian colloquialisms offer us an interesting read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disjointed and poorly written, May 7 2011

I had hoped I would enjoy this book having read similar titles, under and alone,no angel, chuck zitos biography as well as sonny bargers.all of these books in my opinion were entertaining and well written.Dead man running is plain boring and drawn out with references from other outlaw books that have nothing to do whatever with the story. The authors don't seem to know how to make a story interesting,I personally couldn't finish it ,.I just got bored with the repetitive style of writing.I imagine the two guys that wrote this rubbish trawled through as many outlaw biker books as possible to get ideas to try to make the book interesting. My opinion save your money and avoid like the plague.
