This is a gorgeous harness, very well made, but the sizing is a bit iffy.

My smaller dog has a 24-inch chest, so should be a perfect fit. However, the front strap is 2" wide, which means it restricts and rubs the shoulders if she runs at a full extension, plus it's a bit bulky for her. So, it's a great walking harness for a dog her size, but it's terrible if you're going to use it for anything where the dog will be running full-out.

On my larger dog with a 28-inch chest, it's pretty near perfect.

Tricky Sizing but a Good Product Dec 2 2011

While I was able to measure the girth of my dog and buy the harness based on this, the strap which circles his front (not sure what to refer to it as) is a touch too long even at its shortest adjustment. My dog's girth fell on the upper end of the Medium size (32") and yet I am unable to properly tighten that front strap. Even the girth strap appears longer than expected, although I can tighten that strap snugly.

Other than the sizing issue, the harness is well made and comfortable. My dog hardly reacts to wearing it. He can wear it for a long time without exibiting any discomfort. And unlike with some cheaper harnesses, it is easy to put on my dog and maintains its adjusted strap lengths (given the size caveat above). The handle and rings are strong and easily secured.

I like it a lot and would recommend it even with the steep price.

* As an aside to the vendor, the title of a product shouldn't include a long description. That's why there are Details and Features sections. "Dean & Tyler Dog Harness - Medium" should be enough for the product name, or "Dean & Tyler Dog Harness" with the sizes a selectable option. Look to other properly formatted product descriptions to see how it should be done.

Didn't hold up that great June 13 2012

The design seems pretty heavy duty, but while walking my dog (60 lbs) he made the squirrel lunge and pulled out a D-Ring, kind of ticked about that. He isn't a huge dog, and I didn't pull him back excessively hard, but that ring pulled out very easily. Kind of a bummer for how much it was. Fits nice, but could be a little more durable.

Just purchased this for my Siberian Husky puppy & he loves it & so do I !!!LOL!!! Very stong material & adjustable to fit as he grows. The handle is cool because when you're walking him & he gets a little antsy, you can grab that & keep him next to you(where I want him).Very fast shipping also!!!

GREAT HARNESS July 14 2012

My English Springer Spaniel hates most dog harnesses but since she doesn't have to "step into" this harness, it's been a BIG plus for her. For me, I'm extremely pleased by the quality construction and material. I also like the fact that this harness can be used as both a service dog harness and a regular walking harness-simply add/remove
the "Service Dog" label. My dog has always walked better in her service dog harness so the fact that this harness can serve as both is a blessing. The only small negative is that if your dog is behind you, and you pull on the harness, it can come off over the head if the harness is not properly adjusted. Since adjusting the harness to a proper fit is easy, I don't consider it any kind of real problem. I think this is a GREAT harness and highly recommend it.

This is the best made dog harness that I have ever seen. Dean & Tyler makes quality products that are often used by law enforcement agencies. They are tuff, with extra wide strapes and oversized buckles and a built in handle to boot, to give you an extra measure of control over your dog. This feature alone was enough to earn my business since my chow mix jumps and pulls whenever she gets close to another animal.

My only complaint is that the sizing seems a little off. I went to the manufactures web site and watched their video on how to measure your dog, I took my dog's measurements and then called their customer sevice department to get their advice on what size would be appropriate for my chow/golden retriever mix (she has a girth measurement of 27.5 inches). The company rep told me the harness needed enough room to slip 2 fingers between it and my dog's rib cage and since she fell between sizes that I should order the medium. Unfortunately, when the harness arrived it was huge, the girth was a little loose but the chest strap was so big she could pull the harness over her head. So, I was forced to return it for a smaller size.

Anyway, my advice if your dog appears to be between sizes is to call the company rep and give them the girth and chest measurements and when in doubt go with the smaller size. You can always buy an extender if the girth strap is too tight. But even if you have to return it, both Amazon (if the order is fulfilled by them) or Dean & Tyler offer hassle free returns.
