Book Description

Feb 21 2012
One-eyed alien Frazzle recounts his flying adventures in a new journal (in alien vernacular, of course). He bighearts his little Model 7, but as time passes, it starts making strange sounds, and Frazzle -- pressured by friends and co-workers -- wonders if he should trade it in. One day, when it goes CLUNK in the middle of the flyway, it's clear something must be done. Youngsters will love the out-of-this-world illustrations depicting worlds rife with all manner of alien life. Even more irresistible: an unexpected ending sure to delight careful readers.

Product Description

Review

"Young lards the text with enough otherworldly words -- noteymaker to exboom to peepered -- to keep readers on their toes and to beef up what is essentially a story about remaining true to your old and trusty friends. Adding to the endearment factor are Martz's illustrations, as shiny and color-shot as ribbon candy, from Hoolo's classic mechanic's shop to the traffic jam on the flyway. There is much fun to be had sounding out words and guessing at their meaning and roots, as planet Harbat's jabberwocky attests." --Kirkus

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly fun Oct 17 2012

My four kids love this book. It's the diary of an adorable little alien named Frazzle, and the story of how he gets a new vehicle. The first page made no sense the first reading, but within a few pages we got the rhythm of Frazzle's crazy galactic vocabulary. This book is a great read-aloud with a group of kids (I have a lot of kids; they practically qualify as their own library story time all by themselves), because they can do the noise that Frazzle's "car" makes. The illustrations in this book are super cute, too.
1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't wait to put it down Sep 5 2012

I started reading the book with my son. After three pages, I started to dread every following word. So much of the book was comprised of made up words that my son had no clue as to what was going on. I think the author thought it would be funny; however, a beginner reader tries to relate the words to things they've heard before. It was very confusing. After five pages, I gave up and my son refuses to touch the book. Fortunately, I borrowed it from the library and will be returning it.
