3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read but disappointing, Feb 28 2012

Even though I'm not a German national, I grew up in Germany and thought it would be interesting to read about Germany from a foreigner's perspective.

There are certainly some interesting and funny episodes the author describes, however it was disappointing to see that even after 15 years of living in her new adopted home-country, she still lacks understanding of the German way of life and doesn't seem to be very integrated.

I emigrated to the US right after high school and have been living here for 18 years. Even though many things and customs seem foreign and strange to me I have learned to accept that every culture has its differences, and learned to appreciate them, instead of what the author is doing: critizing, and constantly judging and comparing how things are supposed to be based on her American upbringing.

I'm not sure why there is no English version available... it would be certainly more helpful for an American wanting to move to Germany to read this book, than Germans who might find this book amusing but also slightly peculiar.

So in summary - interesting and fun book about Germany from an American perspective and a good light read, but not what I would have expected from a 15 year resident.
