Product Description

We call her the "Official Storyteller of Christmas"—but Debbie Macomber is more than that. She's someone who loves the holiday and all its traditions. Now she shares more than one hundred of her favorite recipes to help you enjoy this most joyous of seasons. You'll also find easy-to-follow instructions for crafts, decorations and gift wrapping—everything you need to create a beautiful and festive holiday.

What makes this cookbook unique is Debbie's personal memories and observations. Join her as she reminisces about traditions past and present, and discover the craft ideas she herself uses. As she says, "The holidays are about being with others. They're about celebrating and sustaining our personal community of family and friends."

In this beautifully illustrated book, she shows you how to serve a memorable meal, whether it's a sit-down Christmas dinner for a crowd, entertaining a group of friends at an open house or tea, or spending time with your children or grandchildren baking cookies and making gifts.

Oh, how I love Christmas. Give me an excuse to prepare a spread for my family or invite friends to the house, and I immediately head for the kitchen and reach for my cookbooks. (I've lost count of the number I've collected through the years. Cookbooks dating back to my years as a young wife and mother, even a recipe file from my teen years. I have notes from my grandmother, as well as my mother's recipes.)

What the holidays are really about is being with others. They're about celebrating and sustaining our personal community of family and friends, giving and receiving affection, reciprocating good times—and that so often takes the form of a shared meal.

Every year, for almost as long as I've been published, I've written a book that features some aspect of Christmas. It was my love of Christmas that brought those wacky and irrepressible angels, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, to life. That goes for Mrs. Miracle, too, along with dozens of holiday-themed stories. My goal was—and is—to give you, my readers, something to take you away from the frantic activity of the Christmas season and yet ultimately reflect what it really means. To give you the gift of laughter and a few moments of respite and relaxation.

What I love most about the Christmas holidays is the traditions with family and friends. When Wayne and I were first married, we lived in western Washington State and our families lived on the other side of the Cascade Mountains. Traversing the mountain passes in the dead of winter wasn't always possible, so we had to start our own traditions.

I'll be passing on several of those Macomber family traditions in this cookbook. Take what you like and add your own unique twist. I offer them to you with a grateful heart for all you've done to support me through my publishing career.

I can say without hesitation that you're going to enjoy this cookbook. The recipes will leave you eager to get into the kitchen; the pictures are a feast for the eyes and will inspire you.

Please join me now and flip through the pages. As you read these recipes and Christmas craft suggestions, remember you'll be creating memories in your own kitchen, sharing a heritage of good eating with your family and friends.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for your own home and for a Gift, Sep 28 2011
By Deborah Haupt - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Debbie Macomber's Christmas Cookbook: Favorite Recipes and Holiday Traditions from My Home to Yours (Hardcover)
Whether you're looking for old favorites or new traditions to add to your Holiday table it will be in this wonderful cookbook. It covers anything and everything you need to make a Holiday table something special from Merry Morning Breakfasts to Cooking with Grandma, Baked Gifts and Crafts plus you'll find plenty of room in the back to add your own favorites to refer to year after year.
Inside it's hardbound pages you will also find beautifully illustrated photos and many recipes that came down from Debbie's family. At the introduction to each section Debbie will tell a special story that will bring back your own special holiday moments and memories I know they did for me. It's obvious that she put something very special of herself inside this cookbook just like what her fans expect every time they open one of her novels and she takes this one step further by putting something very personal on each of these 240 pages of treats for the palate, the eyes and the stomach. She covers everything from sweet to savory and all the in between too from table setting, place holders and gifts from the oven and from the heart.
To share a personal note, when mine arrived in the mail my mother happened to be visiting and she was planning on spending most of the Christmas season with my sister, but upon seeing the wonderful recipes inside the book she altered her plans and will be instead staying with me, which makes me very happy.
It makes a wonderful gift as well as a keepsake and if you want your mother to spend the holidays with you make sure you have a copy she can see, or if you happened to want her to stay, say at your sister's home instead make sure you get your sister a copy for a very early Christmas present.
If you didn't love Debbie Macomber before you will now as she shares with us a very personal part of herself. Thank you Debbie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!!!, Dec 7 2011

This is a wonderful Christmas Cookbook. Beautiful layout. There are pictures of many recipes. I would have prefered to have a picture for every recipe, but there are just enough pictures for me to not make this a dealbreaker. (I am very particular when it comes to cookbooks, need lots of visuals). I have made the biscuits (from the breakfast section) and they turned out wonderfully! This is the first time ever that I've made my own biscuits and I will make them again and again, they were so delicious. I also tried the sugar-cinnamon cutout cookies which were also very good. The descriptions are very clear.
I am a vegetarian, and while I expected a Christmas Cookbook to be kind of meat-heavy, I was pleasantly surprised that it is really not! There are lots of recipes for sides and vegetarian dishes, or ones that are easily modified, as well as desserts, cookies and cakes. Overall it is just very well balanced and this has quickly become one of my favorite cookbooks/baking books.
I had never read any of Debbie Macomber's novels before; I bought her cookbook because it came up when doing a search for "Christmas Cookbooks" on Amazon, and the preview that's available on Amazon really appealed to me. I have since ordered and started reading her novel "Trading Christmas" because I liked the cookbook so much :-).

Update 12/27/11: I have now also made the apple cheddar scones, the cranberry bars with cream cheese frosting and white chocolate, as well as the chocolate hazelnut cheesecake. All three turned out absolutely amazing!!! I had never made a cheesecake before in my life, and was kind of scared of the outcome, but it was delicious (tasted like it was from the Cheesecake Factory), looked beautiful and had no cracks at all, thanks to Debbie's clear instructions. The cake got great reviews when I served it to my in-laws on Christmas Day.
I love this cookbook even more now.
