It is a lighthearted comedy of manners that boldly challenges the social order that holds wealth and social status more important than character and moral values. The author has clear feminist convictions and presents Debby as a modern, independent woman.

This is a delightful story of love and romance. Young Debby comes to spend the summer with her aunt, with no plans of romance in her mind. Debby's somewhat pompous aunt has other plans, as she is plotting for Debby to meet and marry a man of "social stature." The story has a cliffhanger of an ending, with two suitors, cut of entirely different cloth, vying for Debby's attention. I really enjoyed this book!
