Product Description

Product Description

Deep Purple were the biggest selling album act in America when they embarked on a 28 date tour promoting their new album "Burn". The undoubted climax of this tour was headlining the California Jam Festival at Ontario Speedway in California, in front of 200,000 people. Their explosive set is presented here on DVD for the first time. The set list includes tracks from "Burn", as well as classics like "Space Truckin’" and "Smoke On The Water".

As the show came to a close, Blackmore - angered by troubles backstage - took his revenge on one of the TV cameras, before exploding his amps and destroying several guitars. It made for a visually astonishing climax to the set, and almost got the band banned from playing live in America again. This fully-restored edition contains a missing track, bonus camera angles, commentaries and many other bonus options.

Ritchie Blackmore: Guitar • David Coverdale: Vocals • Glenn Hughes: Bass/Vocals • Jon Lord: Keyboards • Ian Paice: Drums

Tracklisting:
1) Arrival At Airport
2) Burn
3) Might Just Take Your Life
4) Lay Down, Stay Down
5) Mistreated
6) Smoke On the Water
7) You Fool No One
8) Space Truckin'

5.0 out of 5 stars A monumental masterpiece!, Oct 9 2006
By Customer from Quebec (Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Why everybody's complaining about sound and image quality? It's a 32 -year old tape from a TV broadcast! I think they did their best in restoring the image and sound. This is one of the best recorded DP concerts ever! It was the best performance on the legendary 1974 California Jam and proves that DP is one of the greatest bands on Earth even when not with Jan Gillan! David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes are great and gave new life to the band torn by the Blackmore/Gillan conflict of egos. Unfortunately, there are so few live Deep Purple concerts documented. I would love to see Made in Japan, but they didn't record it.

3.0 out of 5 stars You are not having a seizure....., April 3 2006
....the video is really jerking like that...when they follow movement across the stage. Look at when David moves across the stage during "Lay Down, Stay down". It really is jerking back and forth...like the DVD is dropping frames. Not good. The bootleg Brazilian dvd has awesome video, but terrible audio. This disc has fantastic audio but terrible video. No 5.1 audio either..we get 5.0 which is incredibly bass heavy. The color is good in places...but not in others. Buy it....press play and turn the tv off. Problem solved.

3.0 out of 5 stars This new DVD is not the best quality., Feb 1 2006
By Jim Prue (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
I just bought the new DVD release of Deep Purple Live In California 1974 (California Jam). by Eagle Vision.

I haft to say this DVD is the worst quality that I've seen of this show for an official release. I know its never been released in North America until now, only in parts of Europe, England and Japan.
I have a BOOTLEG copy from a Japanese DVD and the clarity and color is sharp as a tack. The quality of this release is NOT sharp. Its contrasty and the color is faded. It looks like it came from an old quality VHS tape that had lost 2 or 3 generations.

When ABC In Concert aired this on TV in 1974 the quality was good and the Japanese DVD is as good as when that show aired, including my bootleg copy.

I don't under stand why this North America DVD is not treated with the same quality as the Japanese release.

I suggest eagle vision re - look at your source for this DVD and reissue it in better quality.

P.S. If they want to borrow my bootleg Japanese copy to make a better copy you can, just give it back.
