Exactly what I ordered and delivered well before anticipated. I don't give 5 star ratings, as a personal policy, unless I'm completely blown away, otherwise this would've been 5 stars.

Strangely addictive but still average at best June 19 2014

This game was brought to you by Piranha Bytes, makes of the Gothic series. Some of you out there will know what this review (and by extension, this game) will be like, but I will try to make a point. The gameplay and skills system is similar to the Gothic series, down to the nameless hero, method of leveling up abilities, and bizarre combat that will either allow you to cheese the enemies or die horribly. Even the character model looks similar to the Gothic hero, but at least the running animation is hilarious (he runs like he has to go to the bathroom immediately).

Risen 2 has three methods of combat: melee, guns, and voodoo. The swords, while interesting, are generally ineffective as most enemies never seem to get stunned until you learn high level and expensive skills. The guns are considered by most to be overpowered, and the training just makes them insane. Of course, you have to buy bullets, but why worry when you can kill everything fast? Voodoo is the most intriguing skillset, covering magic and such fun things as voodoo dolls to control people. Unfortunately, you learn it later in the game and you have to plan your battles better. In addition, you have the usual other abilities such as pickpocketing, silver tongue, and toughness which add some flavor (pickpocketing is mandatory if you want to actually buy new skills and weapons).

You start as a lieutenant with an inexplicable lack of combat prowess. I'm not even joking, a blind monkey could fight better than you. Money is hard to come by for a while, and some enemies just destroy you before you can run. Every other human in the game is skilled in combat while you have nothing, once again making you feel powerless for a hero that conquered a titan (explained in the story). The unexpected death traps in random spots on the islands took me off guard at first, but luckily you only need to hit the triangle button to escape (you have about 2 seconds if I recall). On the plus side, you are given some freedom in roaming to do as you please. It will also "block" some areas with powerful creatures to keep you from exploring everything.

The character models are PS2 era at best, and some of the environments at the beginning look like something you'd see in a Medievil game. Despite all of the bad, it's not that hard to keep playing. Moving forward in the story feels like a bit of an accomplishment, and you don't even have to know what happened in the first game to understand this one. For under $20, you can't beat this game, but don't expect a masterpiece or an epic game.

Risen 2 April 29 2014

Just started the game so I have just a few beginning things to say about the game.
1. The camera stinks on ice to use.
2. The game is fun and has a unique theme!
3. Things are kind of expensive at first but this can be improved as the game goes on.
4. The game can be quite the challenge so be prepared to die, meaning, save often :).

I hope any of these help. I will update this if i can/remember when i am done with the game!
