rockin' blues,

This is one of the last few albums the band made before they started incorportating keyboards.Must admit when I first bought this Lp back in summer of '80 I had heard only one song and that was Tush. For me this LP satisfied my curiousity.Very rich in the blues. Not a dull moment here. After this I began my odyssey back to their older albums.Hardest working band at the time-touring all the time.

Great Stuff,

This is super material and performances but the CD is too short. I would have liked to see at least a couple of bonus tracks or live cuts.

Nice record, but don't buy the "best ZZ album" hype,

This review is from: Deguello (Audio CD)
Ok folks, time for a real review rather than just a big fan air kiss.Deguello. This LP marked the trios return to the active limelight from a several year hiatus. The results at times are excellent while others previewed the MTV fuzzy guitar "we sing of cars and girls with big boobs" schtick era that was soon to come. "Maniac Mechanic" and "Esther be the One" are examples of this. These two songs foreshadow where the band is going artistically (or was it just Billy G?). There are strong bows to thier earlier 70s works with instant ZZ classics like "Cheap Sunglasses" and "I'm Bad I'm Nationwide." While lyrically not as good as the London era recordings. These efforts redeem the record and make it a worthy purchase. The cover of Elmore James "Dust My Broom" is also pretty good. Overall, compared with the highwater mark of the early 70s this album is a departure but still has enough honest and rockin' qualities to keep it a nice addition. Its after this album it all goes to hell.
