With her help you can prepare many dishes in advance and with her 36-hour countdown to Christmas lunch you can make sure nothing goes wrong for that most difficult of meals to get right. She gives lots of unusual ideas for Christmas parties from fork buffets to drinks parties, including Cheese Tartlets with Wild Mushrooms, Quails Eggs and Hollandaise and Iced Christmas Pudding topped with glace fruits marinated in madeira. Over 100 new recipes include 5 different kinds of Christmas cake and foolproof ways to ice them, a complete vegetarian Christmas including Cheese Terrine with Apricot Chutney, and recipes for Christmas gifts such as Chocolate Truffles.

About the Author

Delia Smith is Britain's bestselling cookery writer, whose books have sold over 21 million copies worldwide. Delia's first job as a cookery writer was for the Daily Mirror in 1969 - numerous phenomenal best sellers and television series followed including Delia Smith's Complete Cookery Course in 1978 and Delia's Christmas, Summer & Winter Collections in the 1990s. Towards the end of the decade Delia commenced work on a new major project - Delia's How to Cook, publishing three separate volumes and the accompanying TV series. The Vegetarian Collection and The Delia Collection followed. After a five year break concentrating on Norwich City Football Club (where she is a director) and Canary Catering, Delia returned triumphant in 2008 with a new BBC TV series and the fastest selling cookery book of all time 'Delia's How to Cheat at Cooking' - which sold over 800,000 copies. Delia is married to the writer and editor, Michael Wynn Jones. They live in Suffolk. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Classic Jan 26 2011
Format:Paperback
I have owned this cookbook since it was first published and now that the binding has started to fall apart wondering if I can justify the purchase of her updated Christmas cookbook. This book provided the detailed information I needed to learn to cook traditional Christmas cakes and puddings. It was especially helpful for the Christmas pudding since I had never steamed anything before and found it all a bit confusing. My other favorite Christmas cookbook is Nigella Lawson's; the different approaches to cooking make these books complementary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Updated traditional fare Dec 4 2000
Format:Paperback
Wonderful recipes for any time, but particularly Christmas. I enjoyed Delia's mincemeat strudle at an English friend's house, made with Delia's delicious mincemeat recipe - not at all like the ghastly, oversweet stuff you buy in jars. Just had to order a book for myself.

I guess Delia is very well known in the UK - maybe like Julia in the USA. I discovered her thru a forum on line. What a piece of good luck. I have now made several of her recipes and enjoyed success from compliments and second helpings. I like her companionable way of writing instructions and tips
