Product Description

From Library Journal

The trial of the sorceress Zandramas leads Garion and his companions into the heart of enemy territory where a cult of demon worshipers forces an unlikely alliance between the forces of Light and Darkness. Eddings uses gentle humor and endearing characters to temper the seriousness of his complex fantasy epic. Recommended for fantasy collections. JC

Book Description

In an adventurous sequel to THE MALLOREAN, David Eddings tells the story of King Garion's abducted infant son and his efforts to save him. Unfortunately, he and his friends are detained by the friendly, but determined Zakath, who refuses to let them leave. As a horde of demons ravage the Cities and a plague lets loose its terrors, Garion has little time left to reach his destination, or the kidnapper wins by default.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!, Aug 18 2003
By
This review is from: Demon Lord of Karanda (Mass Market Paperback)
I like the Belgariad series which prompted me to buy the Mallorean series. I am in for an unpleasant surprise.
The first book is OK but the second book fails to deliver. A few times I wanted to quit reading altogether but I carried on hoping the third book will start to redeem the series. I am disappointed. At the end of the third book, which I somehow managed to finish after telling myself several times the plot will start to pick up soon, I have decided to abandon the 4th and 5th book. The plot is dull and repetitive. The characters who manage to shine in the Belgariad series, have become colourless and boring. The dialogue is deadpan and a few times I found myself wanting to hurl the book aside because of the same repetitive comments. The worst is Garian's wife who just irritates me! Yes she is already an irritating spoilt character in the Belgariad series but I have hoped she will become more mature but no such luck! I am hesitating to read the other series by Eddings I bought recently on the merit of the Belgariad series. I should have read the Mallorean series before I venture further into Edding's works. Sigh! I probably will just scan the end of the 5th book just for the sake of finishing the series. A major disappointment!

I fairly enjoyed the Belgariad. On a whole I would give that particular series 3 stars...

However, the Mallorean is just a rehash of the same freaking series. Here is the whole plut of the series thus far

1) Son kidnapped
2) Going after son
3) Stops in First country to talk to someone
4) Durnik goes fishing
5) Stops in country number 2 to talk to someone
6) Ce'Nedra weeps for lost son while Durnik goes fishing
7) Stops in country number three to talk to someone
8) Group travels across sea and Durnik goes fishing
9) Stops in country number four to talk to someone

5.0 out of 5 stars The Belgariad Review. Books 1-5, July 17 2004
By
Paula McGlynn (Brittish Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Demon Lord of Karanda (Mass Market Paperback)
The book series "The Belgariad" is probably the best book series i have ever read in my whole life so far. Dare I say, even better than Harry Potter. Although the series is very long, it's so enthrawling that i read it all in one week. Yes, all five books, in two volumes which are now available to buy. The book has a great deal of characters and it's hard to remember them all and where they come from by the 5th book, "Enchanter's End Game," but as you read along, they come back to you, and because David Eddings is such a good writer, he reminds you who they are avery couple books. The series is amazing. When you read it, you travel into the mind of Garion and his friends and it feels as if you are there, traveling the world with them too. It's an amazing series, and you don't even have to read "Belgarath The Sorcerer," or, "Polgara The Sorceress," to understand those characters, because David Eddings doesn't leave out any details... maybe that's why it's so long. I would definitly recommend everyone to read this, or give it a try, and if you don't like it, you can talk to me.
