Book Description

Oct. 30 2010 Design Dossiers

Kids will be encouraged to experience design firsthand in this interactive series that encompasses a variety of learning styles, develops creative problem-solving skills, and expands the ways in which kids approach challenges. With content rich in both descriptions and images, these surveys examine a wide array of design disciplines and explore basic questions such as What is design? How does it work? and Who are the designers that shaped the visual world as we know it today? From the forewords contributed by top contemporary designers and an explanation of how the respective design processes work to fact-filled cards and fold-out time lines, kids develop a basic knowledge of design and how it fits into their everyday lives. An interactive project at the end of the book enables curious kids to put what they learned into action.

Using numerous examples from day-to-day living, this introduction reveals how people use words, pictures, and symbols to communicate messages. From posters to books to websites, this exploration examines how shape, color, size, typography, and the organization of visual elements impacts their interpretation and acceptance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be used in schools!!! Feb. 17 2011

This is an awesome book I bought for my children, currently ages 8 and under, although the book says it is for ages 9 and up. This book is laid out beautifully and has tabs for easy reference. I think every school child should have this book! I am interested in graphic design and have even been reading it myself. This book is not cutesy and does not talk down to children. It gives them real vocabulary and explains the design process and even gives some projects to try and history. I love this book and plan on getting more from this company. I've already got the World of Design book by them too.

This book is a fun introduction for children into the graphic design world. There are great hands on projects to interest young aspiring graphic designers, as well as keep the interest of adults too.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Teens not Kids Oct. 29 2011
By monkeygirl - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Spiral-bound|Verified Purchase
This book is more like Graphic Design 101. The 'for kids' was totally slapped on as an after thought because this book is far too advance for any child! It is possible a teen would be able to appreciate this OR an adult just getting into graphic design and wanting a quick and easy overview. The layout is fun and includes tabs for the different sections which is a nice touch.
