4.0 out of 5 stars Stood the Test of Time and a Great Intro to Los Lobos, Mar 29 2004
I've had this album for years and it has survived several cleaning sweeps through my CD collection. It has stood the test of time by having a coherence and energy that many soundtracks do not have. The songs are quite a melange with Link Wray, Dire Straits and then Los Lobos and their incarnation, the Latin Playboys in addition to Tito and Tarantula (come one, how can you say no to an album with Tito and Tarantula?)

There are movie dialogue snippets that maybe annoying for some but do add an additional layer for those who are fans of the film Desperado (so many explosions, salma hayek naked.) If the dialogue drives you that crazy you can always modify it with software since the dialogue does not overlap into the music itself.

To get a good introduction to Los Lobos this is a great energetic album and for the Los Lobos fan you have to get this album in conjunction with their multi-disc sets.

Higly recommended and years of enjoyment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cool, Nov 18 2002

This is a very cool, eclectic disc. Standing on its own even without the movie, the tracks (by everyone from Dire Straits to Los Lobos) have a nice flow to them that well represent the northern Mexico / West Coast sound they're striving for. When I first bought it years ago, it was just another disc, but the more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. The audio clips from the movie may be a bit distracting to those who haven't seen the film, but they're not particularly long.

4.0 out of 5 stars THIS SOUNDTRACK ROCKS, Sep 20 2001
By
A fitting companion to a great action film - the highlight of the CD is undoubtedly Tito and Tarantula's "Strange Face of Love" - whoever picked the tracks and produced this album (Rodriguez?) did an excellent job. Too many soundtrack albums sound like random selections of songs. This one feels like a great experience from start to end.
