Book Description

The intimate dialogue that forms the basis for Desperately Seeking Self is between a therapist and a client with bulimia--a composite character based on the many patients Viola Fodor has helped in her practice. Touching and insightful, it helps readers to open their minds, explore their inner natures, and recognize the importance of self-love in overcoming their eating disorders. B&W illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique contribution to eating disorders literature, Dec 3 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Desperately Seeking Self: An Inner Guidebook for People With Eating Problems (Paperback)
For 10 years I was lost in the world of my eating disorder and then in 1988, I met Viola Fodor, a psychotherapist. She spoke to me about many things, such as true self, inner wisdom, meaning in life. What she told me helped me to turn my life around and heal completely from my eating problem. She's now encapsulated the essence of her teachings in this remarkable book, which doesn't talk about acting as if you're okay or positive affirmations. No, this book deals with the process of real profound change. The kind that happens from the inside out. The kind that leads you to your true self. It tells you how to tap this essential process (and we all have this capacity) so it stays with you forever, guiding you through the most difficult challenges in your life, including an eating problem.

This review is from: Desperately Seeking Self: An Inner Guidebook for People With Eating Problems (Paperback)
I have read the first edition of this remarkable book by Viola Fodor. I highly recommend it to all those who wish to learn more about themselves and how to deal with their inner feelings. Having an eating disorders is not the only reason to seek out this book. All of us can be guided by it. I look forward to seeing the next edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars The feel good book, Jan 9 2012
This review is from: Desperately Seeking Self: An Inner Guidebook for People With Eating Problems (Paperback)
I love this book for days when I need a little self esteem boost. It is full of positive and comforting thoughts. I have had the privilege of hearing this woman speak, and she is also a great speaker as well as author. This book is excellent for anyone in recovery or struggling with eating disorders or addiction. It would be somewhat helpful for family members and friends to read, but it is most valuable to the person who is suffering. This book is often hard to find in bookstores, I was told it was out of print. A bit pricey for a small book, but it's worth it. I have bought and given away many copies of this book to clients and friends struggling with eating and addiction issues and they also found it comforting.
