4.0 out of 5 stars A charming tale, Sep 13 2007
By Pamela P "pamelap" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Devil's Angel (Paperback)
From the back "A Hellish Plot By rights, she is mistress of Belle Haven. But sheltered and innocent Angel Winter has been robbed of her inheritance by ruthless relatives, whose heartless schemes have lured her into the bed of the dangerous and powerful "Lord Lucifer". And in a single scandalous moment, their destiny is sealed. A Heavenly Passion Reviled for his dark past, Lord Lucian, Earl of Vayle, has long struggled to vindicate himself. But on the eve of his success, he is thwarted by vile treachery and forced to wed an exasperating enchantress who poses a far greater challenge to "Lord Lucifer" than the enemies gathering to destory him. For she threatens to melt his cynical, frozen heart with the heat of her passion... and the blazing, glorious fire of her love."
Enjoyable, but typical. I will read it again, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Adventure in Marriage., Mar 22 2010
By K. Lowrie - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Devil's Angel (Paperback)
Set in a time when men see women as less than equal to themselves, this story tells the tale of a young woman(Angel) who finds yourself married to just such a man(Lucian). After much arguing and many misunderstandings later Lucian realizes a woman can be every bit as resourceful as a man. A GREAT BOOK!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Implausible with a too trusting heroine, Jan 15 2010
By Melissa - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Devil's Angel (Paperback)
Devil's Angel starts out fairly well. The leads meet in an unconventional manner, and are victims of other's machinations, but after the first few chapters the novel became implausible and the characters not that likeable especially the hero.

Angel meets Lord Lucian Vale at her friend, Kitty's house party. Lucian is soon to be engaged to Kitty but unfortunately, Angel's step-brother is in love with Lucien's intended. Angel warns Lucien that her step-brother is up to something. Angel's warning proves accurate; she and Lucien are drugged and found together in bed the next morning. Lucien believes Angel is in on the nefarious deed, his anger is monumental. Angel is incredibly naïve. Her father sheltered her to the point that Angel believes that she has lost her virginity by just sleeping next to Lucien and she lets others know this.

SPOILER - Forced to marry, Lucien is at first furious but he soon realizes that Angel is so innocent that she really believed she was no longer a maiden. Angel wants to make the best of her marriage and she falls in love fairly rapidly with her husband. This seemed improbable as the two barely knew each other. Other improbable elements are Angel's overreaction to almost everything Lucien does and she also becomes best friends with Lucien's mistress of all people. She knows who the woman is but does not want her husband to give up his mistress as she is just so nice and she believes Lucien should be happy at all costs.

Lucien is at times condescending. He must be right in all things and he thinks Angel should acquiesce to all of his wishes. He is good in bed though and this seems to be the tie that holds these two together.

Lucien is estranged from his father and this appears to be the only area where Angel has any influence in her husband's life. Angel has a backbone and steely determination in this part of her husband's life but I did not see it in other areas.

There is also a mystery to be solved in this novel. Angel's father drafted a new will before he died leaving his estate to Angel but it has disappeared. Together Angel and Lucien are searching for clues to its whereabouts. Or I should say Lucien is as he does not permit Angel to interfere in his investigation even though it is her estate.

In summary, Angel is just too naïve, trusting and accommodating to be paired with a stubborn, angry and imperious hero like Lucien.
