Product Description

From Library Journal

The Marquis of Vidal is a bad lot a rake and seducer, reckless, heedless, and possessed of a murderous temper. He is known by friend and foe alike as the "Devil's Cub." Yet as the handsome and wealthy heir to a Dukedom, he is considered a good prospect on the marriage market. Vidal currently has his eye on the young, lovely, and unintelligent Sophia Challoner, and Sophia's greedy mother is more than happy to encourage his dubious attentions. The colorful and eccentric characters fall over each other's plots, get involved in very peculiar coincidences, engage in colorful derring-do, and generally make life difficult for each other. Narrator Michael Drew manages to distinguish one character from another without the verbal gymnastics that the plot would seem to require, allowing the listener to concentrate on the Shakespearian plot and priceless dialog. Enthusiastically recommended for libraries where romance and/or Heyer are popular. Barbara Rhodes, Northeast Texas Lib. Syst., Garland

The words are like poetry, easily flowing from one page to another. (Amy Jacobs My Overstuffed Bookshelf 20091210)

The Grand Dame of this genre... (Elizabeth Bogardus Thoughts from an Evil Overlord 20091214)

As humorous as it is romantic, Devil's Cub builds to a merry madness of misunderstandings that threaten the hopes of hero, heroine and assorted friends and relatives before all is happily resolved. (Margaret Donsbach HistoricalNovel.info 20091217)

A very fun book that perfect for an afternoon of relaxation. (Bridget Hopper Readaholic 20091221)

Hooray for another fun-tabulous Georgette Heyer novel! (Marie Burton The Burton Review 20091221)

The plot, an intricate maze, comes to a beautiful climax and leaves the reader SO SATISFIED. (The Long and Short of It )

An exciting and entertaining adventure complete with confusion, flaring tempers, a copious amount of chasing, and many misadventures. (Meredith Esaprza Austenesque Reviews )

A wonderful read for those who love historical fiction, comedies of manners, and stories where it's all about the banter that brings a pair of opposites together. (Maya Missani Apprentice Writer ) --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rake Restoration at Its Best, Sep 10 2002

This review is from: Devil's Cub (Hardcover)
The prequel to this novel, These Old Shades, is my all time favorite novel, the joining of the worldly yet innocent Leonie with her beloved Satanas, Duke of Avon. Vidal, the Devil's Cub, is the expected product of this union, with all his mother's charm and passion combined with his father's wickedness. Naturally, his natural mate is not another tempestuous woman, but the highly intelligent, pragmatic Mary, the perfect foil for his impulsive personality. Heyer's subtle humor is at its best in this novel, her depiction of England and France historically accurate. And of course, its a joy to revisit Leonie, her Monseignor, Rupert, and others from These Old Shades. Now, if only they would reissue These Old Shades...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love and Honor at it's Best, July 8 2004

(REAL NAME)
This is a sequel to These Old Shades, being about the son of the Duke of Avon and Leonie. Dominic's wild behavior and bad temper earn him the nickname Devil's Cub. When he crosses pathes with a sweet, practical miss, he has met his match! A mad romp starting in London, going through Paris and ending in the French countryside, this is a must read for Heyer fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!, April 13 2004
The first Georgette Heyer book I've read was....Arrabella and April Lady. I didnt like them much to be frank. The romance wasn't that...romantic....Im more of a X-rated book reader XD But after reading Devil's Cub,expecting to be bored and dissapointed,I was amazed at how good it was. There was no sex.....and yet it was such an interesting book. It touched me...made me laugh....and made me cry sooo much!!! This has been the best book I've ever read. I also read all of Jane Austens book,I heard Georgette Heyers was like Miss Austen...but Heyers is so much more romantic!!!!
