Definitely Delivered,

I couldn't wait for this book to be released, and I have to say it definitely over delivered. In some of the other books the vamps quickly accept the mating even after centuries of solitude. Tane's reluctance came off more believable. As usual Ms. Ivy delivers very compelling characters with individual voices and unique journeys. I think the author is making an effort to make the internal dialogue more snappy with the more pop culture references which was an amusing touch in addition to Levet continuing to be a thorn in the vamp's collective sides. Usually in romances I skip the chapters which deal only with the internal strife on the side of the bad guys. My own personal $0.02 is if the hero/heroine don't get that view, I shouldn't have it either. (I skip whole chapters in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series). But I learned my lesson with Book 6 "Beyond the Darkness"Beyond the Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, Book 6) when I had to go back and reread in order to catch up with what was happening with Caine...who is a bad guy? bad guy turned good guy? Well, we still can't really tell by the end of Book 7. There were a lot of characters to keep track of in this one between the new vamps, new bad guys, new types of demons, old vamps who are reintroduced (if you're a fan of the series, you'll want to make sure to read Ms. Ivy's short story in the "Yours for Eternity" collection Yours For Eternity). Of course I devoured this book (ok the pun was intended) in one day, so maybe it was just me.I purchased the Kindle version (a bargain by the way!) and the paragraph returns were all messed up. A lot of the dialogue came in continuous streams vs. being broken up with carriage returns. So that was a little distracting, but was a fault of the format not the plot or the author. 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful

Get Devoured by Super Sexy Tane,
By Monique Atgood - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Devoured By Darkness (Mass Market Paperback)
A big theme of the Guardians of Eternity series, is that two imcompatible beings, be they Vampires, Jinns, Humans or Werewolves from opposite sides become enamored with each other. While they go about having fantastic adventures and often saving civilization from ultimate destruction, they fall in lust and in love. A running theme of the books is in the beginning the male is forced by circumstances to take the female prisoner. It's fun to watch as the male character is completely bowled over by the force of his unexpected feelings and longings for the female. These are all great sexy yummy guys who have had centuries to practice their skilled love arts and fulfill their lusts with countless women. Of course, the main female characters are all wonderful and smart and capable of escape and occasionally taking off the head of an enemy, but they discover their heart has been captured even if they are free. This is the 7th book and is about Tane the super sexy yummy Polynesian vampire and the half human half Jinn Laylah. She is hiding a treasure and is willing to do anything to protect it. Tane is a Charon, like a Texas Marshall. He is sworn to uphold the law and turn any half-breed Jinns over the Oracles for extermination. He's a super cop, who must follow the law. Ya can see problems he's going to have turning her over for execution huh? Throw in the mix a nasty sadistic dominatrix vampire, a power crazed centuries old mage, and a reappearance of an old race of feys embroiled in a civil war bent on either saving and destroying the world, and you get a great novel. I loved the appearances of characters from the other books. The gargoyle Levet is charming and amusing and does his rescue the damsel, annoy the big bad vampire act. Reading this novel is like having a good friend over for coffee. You enjoy yourself, gossip, laugh and are a better person for indulging in the time to goof off luxuriating in this adventure/romance novel. Favorite lines: "It's so rare that I have visitors who aren't here to kiss Victor's ass or to try and assassinate him." Levet: "There are some who lack the taste to appreciate my exquisite charm." Tane: "I also lack the taste to appreciate chewing on glass, being skinned alive, and reruns of the Rosanne Bar show. Call me crazy." 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful

Tane and Laylah's story was excellent. Alexandra allows the readers to catch up with most of the main characters especially my favourite Levet. He is adorable - a totally unique character and pop culture references continues in this book. Tane and Laylah are perfect for each other and the side storyline of what Laylah is hiding was an excellent addition. To se Styx and all the he man warriors falling in love with this litle thing was great.I bought the Kindle edition but am now heading out to buy the paperback version as the editing on the Kindle frustrated me no end - carriage returns were missing on the dialogue making it frustrating for me to have to slow down and figure out who was saying what.....No fault of Alexandra just the format I think. |
