2.0 out of 5 stars worth a rental if you have time to kill, July 8 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Diamond Hunters (DVD)
You might have seen the dvd cover
which pictures alyssa milano in a
red short skirt holding a gun which
is only there as a selling point since
she neither wears this
(she does however wear a red
shirt in a scene where her nipples
appears from underneath
but it only shows a few seconds)
and she doesn't handle any guns in the film.

This is not the usual action hero
film filled wall to wall with explosions and gun
shoot outs.The main caracter played
by sean patrick flannery does more
finance counting than fighting and
roy scheider is just an old man with
regrets who appears in about only the
first half on the film.

The nudity
(if you can call it that!it's mostly
in the shadows, side or back shots!
you won't even be thrilled if
you watch it in slow motion!LOL)
is supplied by the girl who plays
the role of ruby and zero nudity
is supplied by alyssa milano.

The film has an interesting story,
the language is unusually clean
(apparently it was written for television!
Which channel,i have no idea!) and
there is suspense in the last 30
minutes but it still feels like
a forgettable B movie which nobody
will remember in ten years from now.
The dvd has just the basics,no deleted scenes,
no interviews, no feature on the making of the film.
While the film was released on dvd a short time
ago,it seems that the date 2001 appears
at the end of the film.Perhaps it was
on the self a long time before
being released?
Worth a rental if you have time to kill.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Diamond in the rough., Aug 26 2011

Set in Cape Town, South Africa this is a story of Johnny Lance, a diamond hunter. Kicked out of the house by the man that took him in as a new born, he returns 22 years later to run his adoptive fathers diamond empire. Sean Patrick Flanery is great as Johnny, the man eager to prove himself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT worthy of Wilbur Smith or the actors, Oct 3 2006
By damien - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Diamond Hunters (DVD)
I'm a Wilbur Smith fan, so I bought this DVD thinking it would be interesting...silly me...are movies EVER comparable to the books? Despite the excellent cast, the acting was third rate and the movie came across as sort of Danielle Steelish, not Wilbur Smith. Given the talent involved in the film, the film makers could have done MUCH better!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very sub-standard Wilbur Smith Lite, Sep 10 2006
By The Chalcenteric Kid - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Diamond Hunters (DVD)
The only good thing in this movie is Jolene Blalock as a femme fetale. The problem with this film, to paraphrase an old quote, is that there is a lot of nice scenery but no engaging story put in front of it.

Truly only Wilbur Smoth knows how to pull off South African Grand Guignol and have you care. Unfortunately Wilbur Smith has nothing to do with this. And it shows.
