This review is from: Diamond on Ice (Paperback)
Fresh off her success with Alex and Lorelei, Jason's sister, Pippa gives her nephew Jason and Diana a little push toward one another in this book. Jason, an Olympic ice skater, and Lorelei, who was injured before she could compete in Olympic gymnastics, were raised by stand-offish parents who did not love their children unless they competed perfectly.
Called the Iceman, Jason has power and technical brilliance on the ice, but his passionless performance leaves many cold. After he retires, Jason seeks out Diana, who dropped out of sight before she competed in the Olympic skating events 10 years ago.
He was intrigued at the time by her grace and all-out emotional investment in every skating routine she presented back then, so Jason retains a memory of what skating should be...as well as her photo in his wallet. With a connection like that, the romantic dye is set. Originally, his goal is to hoodwink Diana into working with the skating school he wants to start and trading on her name, since he has the previously mentioned lack of fire on the ice.
Jason changes his mind shortly after meeting Diana, realizing she's vulnerable for some reason when she won't even perform in front of anyone. He knows he'd break her heart if he went through with his plan. So he tells her his goal in advance, disarming most of her objections although she doesn't fall in with his plans by any means. Diana is intrigued by his honesty and believes, as most women do, she can find the well-guarded heart in this gorgeous athlete.
Pippa, Jason's aunt, comes in through telephone conversations with him and a trip to nudge this couple toward the finish line. She fancies herself as a matchmaker, since she was making Love Connections among her relatives and friends before Chuck Woolery even thought about hosting a show to perform that service.
If you're NOT a fan of hers yet, this book might not leave you lukewarm as it did me. Lacey Dancer's done such brilliant story-telling in her other books, I expect more. This is a good story, so you might give it a try and you might really enjoy it.
For a guaranteed good time, read Ms. Dancer's other books which remain on my KEEPER shelf: "Silke," "Noelle," "Leora," and "Caprice," separate Precious Gems romances of four sisters; "13 Days of Luck," the story of Pippa and Joshua Luck; "Flight of the Swan," "Sunshine on Shadows," and "Silent Enchantment." I've reviewed several of these books.
Regarding the Precious Gems books, these are short romances that are good books to start and finish if you want an early night. I could not find "Caprice" on Amazon and only located the story of her sister "Silke" by typing in "Lacey Dancer by Lacey Dancer." The other two books are available by name.
The main attraction with "Diamond on Ice" is getting to hear about Alex and Lorelei and seeing Pippa's determination to see her lovable nephew settled with his own happy ever after.
