"A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance;" -- Ecclesiastes 3:4 (NKJV)

With a series like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, I'm always skeptical when a new book comes out. That's because the humor is based on satires of some of the most painful and vivid school experiences. Whenever the series runs out of such experiences to write about, the stories become pale imitations of the best early books. In this regard, Jeff Kinney continues to surprise me for the good. He keeps focusing on new aspects of middle school that anyone can relate to. This time the story contains a long series of events leading up to the Valentine's Day dance at Greg's school.

As you can imagine, Greg isn't exactly any girl's idea of a dream date. He also doesn't quite understand how to go about attracting the right kind of attention. It's great awkward fun, of the sort that will make anyone reading the story feel like a social butterfly at that age compared to Greg.

There are also good episodes involving Manny, Roderick, and Uncle Gary.

Although this isn't the best book in the series, it's an excellent one.

Greg Heffley is back, and so is the humor that made the first book a bestseller. This almost makes up for Kinney's last book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever which seemed to center around the same gags over and over. I am glad to say that this book is a breath of fresh air.

The opening retells Greg's first year and the changes that occurred with the arrival of Manny. It seems there is always someone turning Greg into a third wheel. Add that to a <del>double</del> three way date with Rowley and things get even more complicated.

The only thing missing from the book is Rodrick. His character appears to be ''replaced'' by Greg's uncle who plays mayor role in this sequel.

Will there be more adventures for Greg Heffley?

Warning--May contain a minor spoiler.
Up to this volume, I enjoyed the series and found it funny. However, I read this book in two sittings and kept waiting for a laugh which never came. It seemed very disjointed with a bunch of random incidents thrown in which went nowhere so just served as filler.
I also didn't like how the book started with the pre-birth memories. I don't think kids like to think about that kind of thing.
I was disappointed with the whole 'leather jacket and aviator glasses' incident which I felt showed much more promise and could have been expanded to a lot more than just having everyone look at him.
All in all I was very disappointed with this book. I hope Jeff Kinney will do better in his next one.

My son was very surprised when he got the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. Since he's been reading the whole series, it was nice to know that he is enjoying yet another book.

This book was very disappointing. The other books in this series were amazing, but this one just didn't live up to the standards of the series. I really enjoyed the 6th book, but I feel like now Jeff Kinney is dragging the series on for too long. Overall, this book was a swing 'n a miss.

I bought this book Dairy of a wimpy kid #7 for my daughter.
She loves it and it is perfect as she has read all the others.
It's great when kids find a series and they read it and enjoy
reading at the same time.......

This book follows the typical Wimpy Kid formula... And has its entertaining moments. However, it drags a bit here and there and just isn't as funny as those before it. Fingers crossed next book is better!
