After an act of piracy onboard the ship of the Spanish nobleman Belmonte, Lostados, son of the Commandant of Oran, Constanze, who is betrothed to Belmonte, and her maid Blondchen, along with Belmonte's manservant Pedrillo, who is engaged to Blondchen, fell into the hands of pirates. Wonderful production Nov. 22 2008
By Roger D. Nelson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
I wanted to give a really nice present to my wife, and took advantage of a casual remark she made about Entfuhring -- that it is such a nice opera, but seldom seen in the US. So I went to Amazon, and voila - a lovely present.
She loved it, and so did I. All the voices are perfect, and all the acting, scenes, the whole performance -- like Mozart would have wanted.

The best 'Abduction' available Dec 25 2000
By Luiz Abreu - Published on Amazon.com
Format: VHS Tape
I found this a very fine production of Mozart's masterwork "The Abduction from the seraglio". What can we say about the music but that it is Mozart at his best, his second master opera (of the seven he wrote in the last decade of his life) and therefore some of the most beautiful music ever composed. The production is lively and colorful, with exquisite sets and costumes: one exception: why is Pasha Selim dressed in western-style clothes when he first appears? Kurt Moll's performance is excellent as usual and I also liked Lillian Watson as a very funny Blondie. The opera is sung in the original German, with English subtitles.

I saw this on a public TV brodcast in my home country of Guatemala when I was 16 or 17 years old, and I just fell in love with it. After a lot of searching around I was able to find this beatifull preformance here, after16 years I get to experience it again.

Thanks.

An Osmin for the ages Jan. 1 2006
By David - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
This is an excellent production of Die Entfuhrung. In this performance it is Kurt Moll who steals the show as Osmin. With his stunning bass voice and his inspired and comic stage presence. A truly great performance by him. The other singers are all top notch. And Solti's conducting is very good.
Surprisingly primitive sound Aug. 8 2014

I was very much looking forward to this video based on the reviews, and based on having other opera videos from the same venue -- Covent Garden with Solti. However, it's my first time ever listening to Seraglio and I wanted to have decent audio, which unfortunately this does not deliver.
