It's not very good. The overture is decent, but it's all downhill from there. The performers did a fine job of it, but I don't know what possessed them to do it in the first place.

a neglected gem Feb. 8 2010
By Mark C. Zacek - Published on Amazon.com
Die Heimkehr aus der Fremde is a sparkling, utterly charming work, unfailingly melodious and beautifully orchestrated. The performance and recording are superior. Highly recommended. I cannot see how anyone who is attuned to the early Romantic ethos (Weber, Schubert, Schumann, and of course Mendelssohn) could fail to be entranced by this neglected gem.
