Product Description

Review

Cook! includes 275 recipes contributed by great cooks and dietitians across Canada. The recipes reflect regional and seasonal choices that are geared toward good health and good taste.... It's also a primer on one of the hottest food issues of the day--the importance of eating food grown as close to home as possible. (Liane Faulder The Province 2011)

The book offers 275 healthy recipes, along with nutritional advice and tips about encouraging family cooking and dining.

The book is designed to lend a hand to families when it comes to preparing healthy meals and eating nutrient-rich foods from all four of Canada's food groups. It also encourages families to make the effort to dine together. The book is also packed with nutritional tip to get Canadians to make smart choices in their kitchens. (Emily Richards Metro News 2011)

Dietitians across the country have produced a new cookbook that does more than just offer up recipes. Though there are plenty of those -- 275 to be exact -- the Dietitians of Canada Cook! (Robert Rose, $29.95) also offers up health advice, like how to reduce sodium intake, and nutritional and cooking tips, such as how to be a smart shopper, avoid food waste and what Omega-3 fats are (and how seeing that on the label doesn't guarantee the food inside is good for you). (Gwendolyn Richards Calgary Herald 2011)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great basics April 6 2012
Format:Paperback
I have all three cookbooks from the Dietitians of Canada series and this one is my favorite. Be warned, however, if you have one of the other two, there is a lot of overlap of recipes between the three books, which I did not know when I purchased all three. There is a great variety of recipes and each chapter contains nutritional tips and information. Most recipes have variations or substitution information on the side, and all recipes have nutritional analyses. I use the muffin recipes most often, as they are great base recipes. You can use the add-ins that they suggest or customize them to make any kind of flavoured muffin you want. There is also a great section on vegetarian entrees, and I think this book is worthwhile for vegetarians even though it contains chapters on cooking with meat. (I was a vegetarian when I bought it and I still used tons of the recipes). Overall, it's a great book for anyone who's interested in nutrition and healthy eating.

I got this book originally from the library. I used it to teach my granddaughter (8) to cook and follow simple but nutritious recipes. She said "Grandma this is gold" and so I went on Amazon and purchased it. We are currently working our way through the book and find the recipes interesting and delicious and not boring.

Great recipes. Try the sweet and spicy chicken, pg 180. The kids loved it. We also gave the book as a gift and supplied some ingredients and a page number to encourage a friend to cook!
