Having only recently discovered Giorgia through her latest spectacular album Senza Paura, I am now backtracking her catalogue to see what I have been missing. Dietro Le Apparenze is another excellent album (2011) to further experience and enjoy Giorgia's soulful voice. And there's the thing: I think soul music which died a death sadly in America after being hijacked by various other musical genres is really reborn here through Giorgia. She has reignited soul music with her emotional and powerful vocal delivery and there's nothing predictable in what you hear. She can take a musical note and twist it and turn around, or upside down and its that unexpectedness that makes her so wonderful to listen to. For example, there's this extraordinary high note she hits which is just about off the musical scale. As much as she can swoop she can dive (while so many singers cannot hit the LOW notes). The musical arrangements are lush and harmonious. Do I know what she is singing? Nope - I don't know Italian and it matters not one bit. Here you'll find a cruisy duet with Eros Ramazotti (Inevitable) which is also featured on You Tube.. Check out the high note on E’ l’amore che conta. Il Mio Giorno Miglliore is a great uptempo track to start the album.
Try to get the CD if you can. I like to pick and mix some tracks digitally but some albums are worth getting in their physical entirety - not just for the lyrics and the pictures and a place in the CD rack but out of respect for the artist's artistry.
