Book Description

Mar 1 2012
Art students and practicing professional artists and illustrators who sense the need for more extensive training in their use of digital software will find the help they're seeking in this comprehensive manual. Detailed step-by-step sequences demonstrate the uses of Photoshop, Illustrator, and other pixel- and vector-based programs. Artists who are looking for self-instruction will find it clearly spelled out in this manual, and instructors of digital art will discover that the book is ideal for classroom use. Both practicing artists and students will learn to build on their current skills by tailoring leading software programs in ways that suit their own personal creative styles and work routines. In addition, they'll be inspired by examples of finished artworks from successful illustrators who work in widely differing styles and showcase many new graphic possibilities available to digitally sophisticated artists. Finally, they'll find a wealth of advice and practical information on how to develop a winning digital art portfolio and how to promote their work to agents and potential clients. The book's text is complemented with more than 300 instructive color illustrations.

This is a great book. I love all Barrons publishing. It has a lot of different teqniques; although more for Photoshop than Illustrator.

I purchased this book to help me learn about digital art and illustration. It has been enormously helpful, especially as relates to the use of Photoshop and layers. In this regard it is very comprehensive. It is easy to read and follow, and the instructions are comprehensible, even for a beginner, like me.

The only thing lacking, for my needs, was information about Corel Painter. It seems that many artists also use this program, and some reference to it would have been helpful to me. Having said that, I do understand that that there is only so much material that can be covered in a manageable sized book. Overall, I am very glad that I purchased it, and plan to use it to help in my work frequently.
