This is an exiting look at dinosaurs and how they are exhibited in a museum ..., Feb 20 2011

It's fun to go to a dinosaur museum to see their skeletons and imagine them as they roamed the earth, but how did all those bones get there? Dinosaur fossils "are found under the ground." When the bones are found they are dug out of the ground by a scientist who "clears off the dirt with a knife." You can see a long, curvy bone nestled in the dirt waiting for someone to remove it so it can go to a museum.
There is a scientist working with the skull of a dinosaur in front of him on a table. There are also shelves behind him with many interesting things that look like bones. On the table there are some tools that he will use. You can see him as he "chips off dirt with a hammer and chisel." Once the bones are cleaned and put together they are put up in the museum for everyone to look at. In this book you will also learn about models, you'll get to see the set up of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, you'll learn about a Compsognathus, and you'll discover a few other interesting things about what you'll see in a museum.
This is an exiting look at dinosaurs and how they are exhibited in a museum. Many young children have a fascination with dinosaurs and this beginning book will show them just how they get from an archaeological dig to actually being set up in a museum. The print is large and bold with short paragraphs on the right hand page with a photograph on the left. A boxed word with an arrow points to something in the picture that might help the child decipher an unfamiliar word (fossil, chisel). In the back of the book is a picture glossary, an index, three questions about the photographs, a page of ideas for parents and teachers, and a few recommended web sites to explore.

This is a visually appealing book with some nice photos - but it says that dinosaurs lived "thousands" of years ago. That's not science!
