Another example that reviews should be taken with a grain of salt.I love this DVD! My aim was to see Dire Straits live in concert and I got what I came for. This DVD takes you back to the days when DS were stadium superstars and touring was a big production. It is a perfect showcase for the genius of Mark Knopfler who, by the way, looks very cool. MK is not a show off. There are no apocalyptic "Time to smash some guitars" scenes here. Mark Knopfler is here to play his many guitars, and he does just that, extremely brilliantly. True, the DVD was shot in 2 different locations, so what? It is very well shot, the colors giving a feel of the mood and ambiance that comes with each song. The song play list offers a unique insight into the musical explorations of Mark Knopfler from the dynamic "Solid Rock" to the mysterious, bluesy "You and Your Friend". "Private Investigations" shows some remarkable guitar work with plenty of close shots on fingers to illustrate the great guitar picking style that is Mark Knopfler's trademark. What a delight! The band members are very well rehearsed and give a tight and solid performance. What's not to like???? It's a fantastic show. It rocks! Just what a rock concert should be all about. I didn't notice anything wrong with the sound. I have surround sound in my TV so I thought the sound was terrific. If you like Dire Straits, you will like this DVD.

On the Night is a live performance, split between two venues in France and Holland. The French component was staged in a Roman Amphitheatre, which is amazing in itself. As for the music, the sound quality is tremendous. The visuals please the eye in that they don't bounce around every second like they do in a lot of music videos. Knopfler's music and particularly his guitar work are mesmerizing. On stage, he's rather taciturn, rarely cracking a smile, but really, he can do what he wants if he plays the way he does in this DVD. Live music lovers will want to have this one in their collection.

Mark Knopfler walks on stage and it's time to live on "solid rock". Very good performance by Dire Straits and fantastic opportunity to see the white Jimi Hendrix (Yeah baby!) do his "latest tricks" on the guitar. How can you go wrong listening to this?Great show!
