As The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul opens, a passenger check-in desk at Heathrow Airport shoots up through the roof engulfed in a ball of orange flames. The usual people try to claim responsibility. However, no rational cause can be found for the explosion - it was simply designated an act of God. But, thinks Dirk Gently, which God? And why? What God would be hanging around Terminal Two of Heathrow Airport trying to catch the 15.37 to Oslo? In these two delightfully odd detective stories, Adams explores once again the realm of the unknown, in the style of science fiction that brought him fame with The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I have long loved the two Douglas Adams stories that comprise this omnibus: "The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul," and "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency." It's a pleasure to put this on my bookshelf ... after reading it again, of course!
The stories feature Norse gods as real and walking among us, and electric monks who can do your believing for you. If you loved Douglas Adam's "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy," but haven't read "The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul" or "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency," you are missing some great reading! If you do love these two stories as I do, then this is THE hardcover book to put them on YOUR shelf, too! Happy reading!

Dirk Gently is one of the most overlooked great detectives. This omnibus in hardcover was a great find for us and it was in excellent condition. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the late great Douglas Adams who had a reverence for the earth and the ridiculous!
