Book Description

The Dirty Girls are back, saucier and sexier than ever….but are they any wiser?

Lauren is at the top of her game as a newspaper columnist—but her romantic life is a total disaster.  Usnavys is still ready for action—from anyone except her husband Juan, that is—his role as stay-at-home dad bores her.

Maybe the other Dirty Girls could help Lauren and ‘navy out, but they’ve got their own messes to deal with: Rebecca hasn’t gained a pound since college (well, who would, if they had an ounce of self-control?) but now that she has a picture-perfect marriage, all that’s missing is a baby; Sara may be the star of her own decorating show on TV, but her dangerous pull toward her ex-husband isn’t so pretty;  Amber keeps reinventing herself and doesn’t want to hear that it isn’t enough to make fans buy her music; and Elizabeth is discovering that a relationship with another woman takes more than bravery and a nesting instinct.

Dirty Girls on Top is about trying to figure it all out—sex, love, careers, friendship, motherhood. And, in the end, if your fingers are crossed and the planets are in alignment, having it come out just the way it should.

Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Valdes-Rodriguez introduced these caliente chicas in 2003's successful The Dirty Girls Social Club. Now, five years later, the sucias reunite at a New Mexico resort, and the passionate and provocative getaway signals more changes for the crew. Usnavys—a United Way executive, self-proclaimed plus-sized manizer and sex blogger—is married to sedate Juan, who cares for their daughter while Usnavys begins an affair. Lauren is a journalist and bulimic whose fiancé, a former drug dealer-turned music industry professional, has a little something secretly going on the side. Rebecca, a magazine publisher, has dreams of a baby with her husband, but they can't conceive. Sara, a Latina Martha Stewart, is frightened and exhilarated by the reappearance of her abusive husband. Cuicatl, a wild Latina rock star, must face her feelings for her older manager, and a fickle public. And Elizabeth is slowly realizing her lesbian partner doesn't want to parent their recently adopted son. Friendships are strengthened and threatened, and facets of each woman's life crumbles while others blossom. The prose is fast and casual, and the plot moves at a fast clip. (July)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sequel to Dirty Girls Social Club Aug 6 2009
Format:Hardcover
Set 5 years after the first book this one is more about self discovery where all the characters learn about themselves about love and relationships and most of all the meaning of their friendship. Still written with the same witty humour as the first one, this book is definitel worth the read, especially if you've read the first book "Dirty Girls social club". Entertaining and funny!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy, Fun, and Wise Jun 1 2009
Format:Paperback
As a huge fan of The Dirty Girls Social Club, I've been waiting for this sequel for years. Though I did enjoy DGSC more (that's a definite 5 star), DGOT did not disappoint.

This time, we get the story mostly from wildly unconventional Usnavy's point of view. While she's not necessarily the most relatable character, her outrageousness is very entertaining. Lauren, possibly the most confused character, still doesn't have it all figured out and adds a lot of refreshing (and painful) realism to this fun, sexy and multi-layered read.

Sara, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Cuicatl's lives are as interesting as ever, and they show that just when you think you've got it all figured out, life throws you another curveball.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chatty, Entertaining, Irreverent May 4 2009
Format:Hardcover
In the bio on Alisa Valdes-Rodriquez, one reads that Time magazine voted her among the 25 most influential Hispanics. Like other books this one presents love, sex, marriage and relationships from a Hispanic point of view, and this adds an interesting slant to this subject. Six woman are "sucias," Spanish for dirty women but in the book their code word for pals, compinches. The six women have friendships that go back years. In the early part of the book they meet at a posh resort in New Mexico for a fun, relaxing reunion that turns complicated from tangled romances and secrets that burst from their hiding places. The woman are: 1 Usnavys, who works, has a stay-at-home husband and whose heart and libido are wandering. 2. Lauren- engaged to a former ganglander now in the music business. 3 Rebecca- married to a rich, software exec of whom her parents vigorously disapprove. 4. Sara- works at a television studio and maintains a relationship with her abusive, exiled husband, Roberto. 5. Cuicatl- pop, music star who is falling in love with her manager, 20 years her senior 6. Elizabeth- who lives in an unhappy lesbian relationship and who is raising an adopted male infant. She has been desperately in love with Lauren for years. Their stories mix and merge in drama, humor, intimacy and lots of romantic intrigue. Translator's Kiss
