Possibly the Best of Collective Soul,
By Batmanbrb "batmansbrb" (Seymour, IN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Disciplined Break.. (Audio CD)
I first heard of Collective Soul with the single "Shine" and I was a little impressed, but not enough to buy the CD. When "Disciplined Breakdown" came out, I decided to give it a shot. WOW!! Talk about major growth as artists!! I was amazed at the complexity and layers of their music as well as the deepness of their lyrics. "Precious Declaration" is one of my favorite songs to rock out to, "Listen" is very artistic pop/rock, "Maybe" is one of my favorite songs - speaks of the feelings you experience of losing someone close to you - beautifully acoustic guitar here. "Full Circle" and "Blame" are gems of pop/rock music as well with very intense lyrics. This was one of the most under-sold and under-rated CDs of the 90's and remains one of my most-played CDs even today. I highly recommend this band to people who value deep lyrics and artistic music... Collective Soul does not disappoint!

Incredible,

This review is from: Disciplined Break.. (Audio CD)
Collective Soul's third release, and my personal favorite, is Disciplined Breakdown. The album didn't do as well as some of their others, probably due to the fact it is lighter and slower. However, this release shows a new level of creativeness and songwriting. Every song on the album is musically and lyrically amazing. Maybe is a cry of hope to a lost friend, Blame questions the use of anger("question your answers, truth has no anger")and critizes those who would tear others down, Forgiveness finds the writer searching their heart to learn to forgive, and In Between tells of two people who are divided because of their fear of confrontation. Those are just a few examples of the lyrical genius in this album. Overall, this is one of the bands best releases, not to be missed out on.
