Discovering Emily [Library Binding]

Emily Carr, age seven, is a stubborn girl who is always up to trouble. There is something different about her from other siblings. They are neat, sensible and clean. She is the opposite of all of that, she always messes her clothes and they don't. When Emily goes to school, she never focus's either. Emily loves animals. If she was allowed she would have millions of pets but I think, Carlow, Emily's dog is just fine for now.

A funny part in the book is when Emily started riding a cow thinking it was a horse. She had a good imagination, and the picture in the book was very appealing. I feel so sorry for the cow; I wander how he felt.

When Emily Carr grows up, she begins to love painting and find out that will be her job. As Emily grew up her paintings were not as people would expect them to be. Emily's father seemed strict and mean to Emily but loved her so much. Sadly, Emily's father did not live to see Emily grow up and become an artist. Most of all he couldn't tell her how proud he was of her accomplishments.

I really didn't know very much about the Carr family.
This was a great book; one of my favourites which I would rate: 4/5 because I like books with research and a story all in one which means the story tells you information and also tells you a story.

If you like books which change the character and your feelings and ends with a happy ending you will like Discovering Emily.

While Jacqueline Pearce was writing this book, she must have researched a lot about Emily Carr, her personalities, her family and where she might have lived through out the book. I have a few connections to Emily. We both like animals I like art a lot but I wouldn't say I like art more then Emily!

One theme in this book is Love. When parents act strict to there children, the children think they are mean and are being hated but that is what parents do. Love can mean two things.
It could mean you like someone a lot or you have children and want them to become and have the very best. This may cause you to act strict to your children but as your children get older they will thank you for the good deeds you have done for them. One example, in this book was when Emily's father got mad at her for riding the cow and said she could have gotten hurt!
Carlow loves Emily lots and she loves him too.
They have such a big connection. Also they are so close like me and my dog Raju.
Another theme in this book is trust. Emily's father Mr. Carr always went away. Emily's mother always got sick and weaker, and the only person to look after the family was Dede, the oldest and meanest sibling. Emily's father trusted her to do a good job and she did. She looked after 4 younger siblings and the whole house! That's pretty good for a 22 year old.
