2003 EPIC Award Finalist for Best Sci-Fi/Paranormal Romance

He helps his E.T. to call home...but can he let her go?

Following a horrendous breakup with his two (and three) timing fiancee, Oregon naturalist Dr. Kent Xavier has sworn off women, all women. He heads out into the Deschutes wilderness to brood, alone, but his solitary trip turns into a midnight rescue mission for a damsel in distress.

Lured by the beauty of planet Earth, Povre disobeys strict orders to remain in camp in favor of a moonlight walk. A bad step on a slope of loose rocks lands her in the very predicament she's supposed to avoid: contact with the dominant native lifeforms.

Forced together by mutual need, Kent and Povre soon find themselves on the run from alien-hunting government agents. Along the way these two scientists from very different worlds discover the most important element of all - love.

Dr Kent Xavier just wants to get away from it all. The stress that came from his recent breakup and the desire to just mope and wallow in self pity is what he is after. That will fix everything won't it !

Povre, not really from this world but non the less enamoured with it's beauty doesn't really follow orders but is more a free spirit is also trying to get away from the restrictive rules constantly being thrown her way.

You just know that as opposites attract these two are going to meet and sure enough Kent ends up rescuing Povre. Really the last thing he wanted when he went away was to run into a sort of women.
Of course there's the whole language problem to worry about but Povre seems to have a natural, or should I say alien, ability that speeds that process up.

They are soon working together to avoid her people trying to catch her as well as Earth's media and scientific forces.

Will they manage to elude their pursuers ?

Will Kent and Povre become the ultimate, clash of cultures, couple ?

I would consider the target audience for this as the YA Fantasy group although I thoroughly enjoyed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of romance Jan. 19 2010
By Lori A. Draeger - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Dr. Kent Xavier just wants to get away from his cheating he heads out to camp in the Oregon wilderness. Povre wants to take a walk in the beautiful Earth moonlight. What keeps this from being a classic damsel in distress is saved by the handsome stranger romance is that Povre is blue, furry, and alien.

T.M. Roy does a great job making the reader see the beauty of the Oregon landscape. She develops interesting characters and an unusual circumstance. The story isn't just a romance, it's also a little bit of action/adventure.

A completely enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alien eyes Jan. 31 2010

The descriptions of the Oregon wilderness make you want to go and live in the wild! T.M. Roy does a fantastic job of showing the world we know through alien eyes. The premise of there being aliens among us isn't new but Roy's spin is fresh and fun. How easily can a furry blue alien blend into humanoid society? Not very. Povre is in for some rude encounters and it's a fast paced ride while she's on them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful April 14 2012

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I found it delightful. It is a short novella that is fun and a little improbable maybe with the Heros' quick exceptence of the alien but still a very good read. I enjoyed it very much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous sic-fi romance! I loved it! June 2 2012

Discovery- A Far Out Romance was a fantastic book to read. The romance was an integral part of the plot and the sex scenes were well-written and demonstrated the growing love between Povre (Povresle) and Kent. Povre and Kent were scientists and were both intensely curious and entirely free of xenophobia. Their personalities are so complex and three-dimensional that they almost leaped out of the pages. The imagery was absolutely fantastic; it was vivid, graphic and so completely realistic that I felt entirely immersed in the story. The dialogue was both captivating and authentic; it often had me smiling with delight or crying along with them. Altogether, this story was a wonderful reading experience and if I could have given it more than five stars, I would have. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable tale! Dec 28 2011
By S. Sutherland - Published on

I must first start this review in saying that science fiction is not a type of book I normally read. However, I was intrigued by the romance aspect, so I decided to try it!

The author has two very well-drawn characters and really taps in well to their emotions. The story of two people being star-crossed lovers is an old story, but one that works well here, especially with the star-crossed part being fairly literal and not metaphoric! I really enjoyed the tale of their romance and how their story was woven. Very well developed and written.

I also have to give an extra kudos to what is almost another character in the book - Mother Nature herself. It's obvious that the author has a great admiration and love for the outdoors. The descriptions of the Oregon wilderness are simply breathtaking. It certainly made this reader (who is NOT an outdoorsy sort of person) want to pull on her backpack and go trekking in the beauty that is the forests of Oregon.

A well-written and crafted story. I highly recommend it!
