Discovery isn't one of the Electric Light Orchestra's strongest albums, but it is more than redeemed by the inclusion of what is perhaps their greatest single, the massive "Don't Bring Me Down." "Shine a Little Love" and "Confusion" are also classic ELO tracks in which synths, guitars, and orchestration merge into a finely crafted whole. Unfortunately, the Beatles pastiche of "The Diary of Horace Wimp" and the overly sentimental "Last Train to London" show that, for this world-conquering band, time was about to run out. This remastered edition of the 1979 LP includes three extra tracks, including a take on Del Shannon's "Little Town Flirt." --Robert Burrow

4.0 out of 5 stars A really, really good album! Feb 23 2006
Format:Audio CD
ELO's Discovery --an excellent album! The weakest song is in fact the album's biggest hit "Don't Bring Me Down" --go figure! For some reason this album was over-looked by listener's and dismissed by critic's it seems.
However, song-writing and production are impressive. Listen closely and you'll discover a hidden gem. Give it a listen, there is much to enjoy and even savour with this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Album...Ever Feb 8 2004
Format:Audio CD
Yes folks, you heard me. Up too this point, all of my reviews have been 5-star albums (Although, I am waiting for my 3-Star Nirvana review to be posted) - but this, indeed, is the best album ever created (so far). This is first on Mr. Musics Top 5 Favorite Albums. Even number two, Sublimes '40oz. To Freedom' doesn't match up too this. And I will explain why this is so uber brilliant. Technical ecstacy is abundance here. From various electronic shock of a synth, too the mind blowing brilliance of a full-fledged orchestra - this is it. We have electronic synths, Orchestras, Disco beats - all topped off with psychadelic 70's rock on roll. Imagine Kiss playing too the beat of staying alive while the Sanfrancisco Orchestra backs them up. All the tracks here are excelllent, every single one. Not one filler. However, the first four tracks would have to be the best out of them. The first track, 'Shine A Little Love' - has a galloping hard rock riff, and is extremley catchy. Good work by the Orchestra. Confusion has a vintage 70's feel with computer blurts here and there. I Need Your Love is guitarist brilliance, with excellent solos and this is an allaround classic ballad. The Diary of Horace Wimp is interesting power pop. Don't Bring Me Down is the biggest song of here, and although not the best - is still very, very good. But seriously folks, all the tracks are great rock and roll with a bit of disco soul and a electronic orchestra backing. It is all great. Everything. Too bad ELO Really went downhill from here. But this folks has to be the best album to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just Lovely Jan 18 2004
Format:Audio CD
Being 36 now, I was only just turning 12 when this album came out.
So I was too young at the time and dont really care less now about the alleged Disco element.
I just play this album to death. Im so hooked
Its a great album.

Suburb stand out songs of Need her love and Midnight Blue.
