I actually registered for the Lion King sway swing instead of this one, but that's a separate review. When my son was 4.5 months old I saw this on clearance at a local store for under 20 dollars. Knowing what it cost originally I decided to buy it, why the heck not?
It was easy to put together, which is always a plus. I like the fold up design and WISH I would have had this swing when we traveled with him when he was 2 months old, very convenient.
Runs on batteries, a lot of batteries. On one hand it's nice and portable and not having to find an outlet is good, but the swing itself runs on 4 D batteries and the vibration in the seat runs on 1 C battery. The sounds and timer work as expected. Seat materials are soft and easily removed for washing. Can technically lock the swing so it stays stationary, but I don't know why anyone would need it to do that.
My swing never worked, as in it would not hold motion. It was brand new in the box and not a return. My son was 13lbs and some change when we got this swing. The weight limit is 20lbs so I know it isn't weight related. This is a problem with the "silent" magnet drive type swings, which both of the Lion King swings are. When they do work they aren't particularly fast, and the idea of speed control is a joke. The Simba toy faces outward when it should be facing intward to the child. The vibration unit slides into the underside of the seat and almost always vibrates itself out of it's holder and falls to the floor. It just won't stay put! The vibration itself is one speed only. Swing lock function feels incredibly flimsy, like I'm going to break it every time I lock it.
Overall had this swing worked I'd probably give it another star, but that's only at the price point I got it for. The original 90 dollar price tag is way too high for what you get, which is the case for the majority of the Lion King nursery items. Having had both this swing and the sway swing, it's hard to say which I prefer. The sway swing felt like it was higher quality, more sturdy, and more importantly WORKED for the most part. Ultimately if you value portability above all else and want a swing you can pack up and put in the trunk, this one will do the job.
