Product Description

Album Description

International Hip Hop superstar Nas and Grammy-winning artist Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley join creative forces to release this highly anticipated and exciting 2010 collaboration. This is an album created by the two serious artists to explore and celebrate the correlations and deep-rooted connections between reggae and Hip Hop, tracing both sounds back to the African motherland that is both the cradle of humanity and the wellspring of mankind's music. The project features the signature instrumentation and musicianship of Marley with the hard-hitting beats and lyrics of Nas. Distant Relatives traces the direct line from Dancehall Reggae's breakthrough moment 40 years ago to the rise of Hip Hop several years later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album to come out in a while, May 24 2010
By
This review is from: Distant Relatives (Audio CD)
This album is what you would expect from these two. I don't have any Damian Marley albums (although I own numerous Bob Marley albums) and I have all of Nas' albums; this is easily in Nas' top three albums. It's the best album that has come out in the past few years (I know that's not saying a whole lot) Deep subject matter on most songs (don't let the Lil Wayne appearance dissuade you). All I would say is get it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Delivers, Feb 18 2011
This review is from: Distant Relatives (Audio CD)
Nas and Damian Marley serve up some pretty crazy tracks with heavy african vibes. Top songs would have to be "as we enter", "naw mean", and for me i liked "in his own words". At first impressions the cd seems to preachy but once you give it a full listen through there is actually some variety to the tracks and it was suprisingly re-listanable, i had it playing in my car for a few weaks. After i listen to this track again after a month of so im surprised at how many good tracks are on it. it would be easier to list the ones i didnt like. This cd might not be for some people but i thought it was pretty good. Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Historical, July 20 2010
This review is from: Distant Relatives (Audio CD)
This album is literally, historic! Every song is poignantly touched with political fervor, and aesthetic zest.

The combination between Damian and Nas was impeccable.

The best rap album since Dr. Dre's The Chronic 2001.
