A guide to 250 dives in the world's 70 best locations.

Diving vacations are expensive, and good advance planning is critical. Lavishly illustrated, Dive provides comprehensive information on each destination -- its history, geography, marine life and special attractions. Informative maps pinpoint the diving sites. Quick reference charts list general conditions, such as water temperatures, visibility, "must sees," strong currents and travel advice.

The expanded new edition includes up-to-date information, as well as new -- and more accessible -- sites. Among the book's features are:

  • More than 300 spectacular underwater photographs
  • A grading system ranging from beginner to expert
  • Authoritative diving notes from experts
  • Support facilities such as dive centers, hospitals and recompression chambers
  • Important safety information for each site
  • Practical travel advice: how to get there, visa requirements, equipment availability.

Dive is organized into specific dives in 11 regions: North America, Pacific Ocean, Caribbean, Atlantic Ocean, Britain, Mediterranean, Red Sea, Africa, Indian Ocean, Australia and Southeast Asia. Destinations range from basic to extremely hazardous dives, making Dive a valuable reference for even the longest diving career.

Review

This color-illustrated guide to the 70 best scuba diving locations around the world describes 300 diving sites in six oceans and seas around the world. The guide opens with introductory material on facts about the ocean, the world of diving, and protecting the aquatic environment. Entries provide descriptions of dive sites and give information on visibility, water temperatures, and marine life. They also offer information on getting there, visa requirements, and currency, and give contact information for key support facilities at each dive site, including dive centers, organizations, recompression chambers, hospitals, and conservation societies. There is also information on nearby activities and places of interest for rest days and non-divers. Most of this supplemental information is contained in margin boxes. Notes on safety, a list of diving organizations, and a glossary are included. This second edition adds 15 new destinations, and contains color photos on every page.

This book has a nice list of diving sites all over the world. For each place you will find a small list with diving centers, hospitals, chambers and some nice hints and suggestions about each place and dive site.
It also has a nice set of pictures and maps.
I think it's a good book to use if you intend to start planning a dive trip.
