Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Morrigan Christine Parker finds that turning 18 carries a heavy weight when you're the only daughter of Rhiannon MacCallan, disgraced high priestess to the goddess Epona, in Cast's down-home follow-up to 2006's Divine by Choice. After Rhiannon betrayed Epona, the goddess bestowed her favor on Rhiannon's look-alike, Shannon Parker. Rhiannon promised her allegiance to the evil god Pryderi, but recanted after Morrigan's birth, giving the child over to Epona's protection and the care of Shannon's parents. Now Morrigan comes of age and learns more about her heritage from her adoptive grandparents and the wind-borne whispers of Pryderi and Epona. While visiting the Alabaster Caverns State Park and exploring her power over rocks and crystals, Morrigan is unexpectedly transported to the mystical realm of Partholon, where she must find Shannon and fulfill her destiny. New readers might be turned off by the frequent switcheroos and stilted dialogue, but Cast's fans will be glad to see all the previous books finally tied together. (Sept.)

Book Description

Conceived in a lie and trapped in a tree throughout her gestation, Morrigan's birth was truly magical. After that start, she spent the next eighteen years raised as a normal girl in Oklahoma.

Upon discovering the truth of her heritage, her rage and grief take on a power of their own, carrying her back to the world of Partholon. Yet, instead of being respected as the daughter of the Goddess Incarnate, Morrigan feels like a shunned outsider.

In her desperation to belong to Partholon, she confronts forces she can't fully understand or control. And soon a strange darkness draws closer….

2.0 out of 5 stars Dreaming of Books, Feb 20 2011
By
Jenny "Dreaming of Books" (Vancouver, Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Divine by Blood (Paperback)
(May Contain Spoilers)

Divine by Blood is centered on Morrigan, who is Clint and Rhiannon's daughter. She grew up in Oklahoma in the care of Shannon's parents. Since she was a child, Morrigan has heard voices in the wind and has been warned by her grandparents to be careful of what they say. On a cave tour, Morrigan finds out that she can communicate with the rocks and rushes home where she confronts her grandparents and finally finds out about her heritage. Distraught, she returns to the caves and in the middle of a cave-in somehow gets transported to Partholon.

I really have mixed feelings with Morrigan's character. I think it was her attitude that I didn't like...because she wouldn't listen when someone would try to give her good advice. She gets angry and always brings up the fact that she's the daughter of a goddess. For Morrigan, all the voices she hears in her head makes her confused and ultimately some of what these voices says do influence her behavior.

I felt like for the majority of the story nothing really happened. Mostly it was Morrigan trying to find herself and struggling with the voices inside her head. Shannon is in the story but she only appears in the beginning and at the end. I would have loved to have seen more of Shannon and more of her story. The ending had Morrigan and Shannon coming full circle. They're both back to where they started with their love at their side. Overall, this wasn't the best book in the series but if you've read the previous two books or if you're a fan of the series then you might like to pick this one up as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Divine Goodbye, Sep 22 2007

This review is from: Divine By Blood (Paperback)
I didn't expect to enjoy Divine by Blood as much as I did. I've read both Divine by Mistake and Divine by Choice, I liked the story where it stood and didn't see a need for a third novel. fortunately curiosity got the better of of me, otherwise I would have passed by an excellent book.

Morrigan Parker was born to be somone very special, only she doesn't know it yet. What she does know is that she has never felt like she belonged. Strange Voices in the wind, Odd abilities, why are things happening to her? Raised by Grandparents who aren't really hers, and longing for the mother who wasn't who they told her. Eighteen years of secrets are about to come out. As Morrigan faces the truth about her mother, two paths are set before her. Will she head the call of the Goddess or be lost to the darkness?

P C Cast has a gift for creating worlds that are breathtaking and utterly believable, with depth and richness that causes a deep emotional connection. Divine by Blood can be read as a stand alone novel, But I highly recommend reading the trilogy. Book 1Divine By Mistake Book 2Divine By Choice also you might likeElphame's Choice 1 (Luna) and 2 Brighid's Quest two stories about the children of Shannon's Grand Daughter, of which I hope there will be a third.

1.0 out of 5 stars Comparing Partholon to watching paint dry...., Feb 9 2008
By frfubar8 "joe reader" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Divine By Blood (Paperback)
drying paint is much more exciting. Against my better judgement I picked this book up and tried it. I wanted to like it, but 'Divine By Blood' was a disappointment from beginning to end.

With all the 'baggage' from the tired plot device we had to wade through in 'Divine By Choice', I thought that more would be heard from Shannon's daughter and indeed Shannon herself. 'Divine By Blood' centers around Rhiannon's daughter Morrigan and her realization of her heritage and powers.

In a nutshell though, nothing really happens. Late teen angst, obligatory voices of evil, chosen of another Partholon goddess and not enough of Shannon, Clan-Fintan or Shannon's daughter to engage your interest. For those readers looking for more hot, steamy sex as provided by the first two books in this series, you won't get it. Kind of makes the whole point of the paranormal romance moot in this case.

So much more could have been done to wind this series up and although I did make it to the end of the book I stopped caring what happened to Morrigan and her 'quest to become the true heir to her powers' long before I reached it.

Pass on this one fans of Partholon. Let 'Divine By Choice' stand as the end of the story and you'll be happier. Better yet, pick up Patricia Briggs or Carrie Vaughn and enjoy REAL paranormal fantasies with great plots, characters and lovescenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent conclusion!, Aug 31 2007
By Deborah Wiley - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Divine By Blood (Paperback)
What if events here were mirrored elsewhere, in a land where Goddesses and Gods still roam?

Oklahoma never seemed like home to Morrigan Parker. The truth of her birth has been hidden from her until now, shrouded in secrecy by Shannon Parker's parents to protect Morrigan. Unfortunately, the dark god, Pryderi, wants Morrigan for his own, just as he craved her birth mother, Rhiannon MacCallan, once Epona's Chosen. Will Morrigan choose to follow Pryderi or will she follow the light instead?

What a hauntingly beautiful conclusion to this fabulous trilogy! DIVINE BY BLOOD can be read as a stand alone, as all of the necessary details are provided. Please note, however, that numerous MAJOR spoilers are given for the two previous books.

P.C. Cast is simply a master at wringing emotions from the reader as this tale made me laugh, cry, and even steam in anger and outrage. P.C. Cast covers a lot of ground in DIVINE BY BLOOD, as she begins with the wonder of Morrigan's birth and progresses till Morrigan reaches a true understanding of her heritage. Every moment is to be cherished, as P.C. Cast makes excellent use of her creation of the two worlds mirroring one another.

It is with some sadness that this trilogy concludes. The first book in the series, originally published as GODDESS BY MISTAKE and later republished as DIVINE BY MISTAKE, still remains one of my favorite books by this fantastic author. P.C. Cast once again does a superb job at blending together the mythology of her fantasy world with the mundane world of Oklahoma. Kudos, Ms. Cast!
